FIRST ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET
TC OVE HONORS OUTSTANDING
as Public LIgTICIPANTS IN VOC ED
The Texas Council on Vocational Education recognized outstanding high school
and community college vocational education students and exemplary business,
industry, and labor involvement during an awards banquet held February 12 in
Austin.
The ten winners and 24 finalists in the five award categories were enthusias-

The winners and finalists were presented certificates of award by Mrs. Maria
Elena A. Flood, State Board of Education member from El Paso; and Mr. Sam
Carroll, Ill, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board member from San
VOLUME 19, NUMBER 1 MARCH 1988 Antonio.
In addition to the certificates of award, the winners were presented a personal
letter ofcongratulations from Texas Governor William P.Cemns The tdn
winners were also presented a personal letter of congratulations from George
Bush, Vice President of the United States.
: ..The awards program was initiated by the Texas Council on Vocational Educa-
tion and sponsored by the Vocational-Technical Education Development Foun-
dation.
The recipients were selected from over 130 nominations submitted by public
school districts, community colleges, and technical institutes from throughout
Texas.
Students were judged on performance in the classroom and/or on the job,
leadership abilities, and involvement in school and community service projects.
The Business/Labor and Advisory Committee nominees were judged on their
assistance to schools in planning and evaluating programs, moderizing
instruction and equipment, and in helping students with career guidance,
training, and job placement.
State Representative Robert Hunter of Abilene, former Chairman of the Council,
9 s s served as Master of Ceremonies for the Awards Banquet held at the Radisson
Plaza Hotel. Keynote remarks were delivered by Mrs. Flood, Mr. Carroll, and Mr.
