SECRETARY'S REPORT
.At the general meeting in San Antonio on September 12, 1992,
a majority of members present voted in favor of submitting an
amendment to our By-Laws. This Amendment allows us to
figure the necessary %vote on the number of votes returned as
opposed to the former % of all members. We are happy to
report the following results:YES - 544
NO -7
675 ballots mailed October 12, 1992
551 ballots returned as of deadline 11/13/92 (81.6% response)
The Secretary, with the assistance of Mary Ann Gordon and
Penny Garrett, both 44-9, counted the ballots on 11/16/92.
Thank you gals.
I was very pleased with the high percentage of returned ballots.
In part, this can be attributed to using stamped return
envelopes. However, I feel the overriding factor was that so
many of you realized the importance of the change. Article XIV,
2 paragraph, as originally written had outlived its usefulness.
Much time and money has been wasted on prior votes because
some members did not exercise their right to vote. Now we will
be able to move forward and produce some results that reflect
the wishes of the majority of interested members. Many thanks
to all of you who "seen your duty and done it..."
Just one other comment... Those of you who could not be at
Sweetwater for the unveiling and dedication of the wishing well
missed a wonderful time. Sweetwater has changed somewhat
in the past 50 years, but hospitality and friendliness have
remained the same.

MEMORIAL DAY, 1993 in WASHINGTON, D.C.
An invitation to the White House for an 8:30am breakfast hosted
by President and Mrs. Clinton for several veteran organizations
proved to be a most momentous affair. Both the President and
Mrs. Clinton moved throughout the State dining room, greeting
and visiting with all of us. When Mrs. Clinton and I found out
we grew up in the same town, attended the same high school
and swam at the same pool, we had a most extended, friendly
visit. She also commented on my uniform and when I told her
about the W.A.S.P. she said, "Yes, I just read about you
women." Suddenly realizing we had spent 10 minutes of the 45
minutes of the breakfast time allotted, we each moved on.
At 9:15 we all moved to the East room for a commemorative
ceremony for 6 new stamp issues featuring WWII. Each of us
was presented with a page of stamped first issues.
Then everyone out into an official bus to be driven to Arlington
Cemetery for the official wreath laying ceremony by the
President at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Changing of the
Guard, then our group was escorted into the Amphitheater to
distinguished guest seating and many speeches and
ceremony. After that, back to the White House in the bus
where the group dispersed.
At 8:00pm "Women of Courage" was aired on P.B.S. and again
the next day. Since then there have been numerous calls for
information on our group as well as calls for more speeches,
It was truly a day to remember.August 1993
