ArchivistFROM THE PRESIDENT:
What an exciting year for the WASP! 0
You will note by the stories in this issue of the NEWS,
celebration and dedications are being held across the country.
There must be many more unreported as I've had requests
from organizations in several states for a list of WASP in their
area. Please tell us about whatever is happening, send photos,
your story and newspaper clippings.
Often I am asked, "How many WASP are still flying?" I know a
few of you who do but would like to hear from all WASP who
have a current license.
The newsletter is of prime importance in keeping our lines of
communication open. Deadline for the next publishing is
October 1, 1993. Check the box on this page for the names
and addresses of the editorial staff. We want to hear from all of
you!
Have a good summer and plan to join us in celebrating the 90th
Anniversary of Flight in Kitty Hawk, N.C. at the Region 1 reunion
December 16-18, 1993.
FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT:
SCHOLARSHIP FUND
With an almost unanimous show of hands, this board was
asked to continue working on specifics for our scholarship fund.
We presented application drafts to the Board in St. Louis, ar
a challenge to set a goal of $100,000 for the fund by the end
1994.
Much of the criteria for applicants was set forth in the original
resolution setting up the fund. That resolution will be printed
with this report if space permits. We are printing a draft of
application for changes or comments. Please request same
from the committee if you have input.
We think that we should offer $2,500 per scholarship, and after
checking with our treasurer, if we can raise another $25,000 by
October, we could offer one scholarship at our 50th in
Washington next year.
At the March Board meeting three people pledged to give
$1,000 this year. It would be great if 22 more could give
$1,000, but if each WASP gives as much as she is able, we can
reach $50,000 by October.
Many feel they may not have enough for all their retirement
years, but there are some ways you can make a bequest or gift
to the Scholarship Fund.1.

3.Execute a codicil to your will.
If you have a living trust make an amendment.
P.O.D. Savings Account (Pay on Death)A P.O.C. Savings Account is a new vehicle being used to make
gifts without any legal expenses. Simply tell your bank that you
want to open such an account and that whatever is in t
account at your death be paid to the WASP Scholarship Fu
Whether you give now or make provisions to leave money to
the Fund, do it now, you know how forgetful we are getting.4
