The governor of Texas has David
Crockett’s motto mixed up in his
head in a jumbled or addled state.
David said: “Be sure you are right
then go ahead." The young gov-
ernor has made sure he is right and
is going ahead fast but he will find
that the state of Texas will be
taxed at the least $75000 and he
still has no dead cinch on that body
acting as he sees it their duty to
act. He is receiving many criti-
cisms from friends and foes and the
play he is making now is the one of
his political life. It the legislature
passes the law that will prevent the
fight the governor will be lauded to
the sky but should they fail his po-
litical hereafter will be represent-
ed on the map of great men of the
state by a big blank. Such is hu-
man nature to applaud those who
win and to turn out those who fail.
We believe Governor Culberson is
honest in his endeavors to stop the
disgrace of a brutal fight in the
borders of Texas but he has a wily
foe to fight to win.
Adam Clark of the Arkansas
Standard says it sounds like a hol-
low mockery when he hears people
talking of the country being on a
sound financial basis and his sub-
scription books show just the re-
verse. Adam should take whet-
stones and dried apples and get his
books straightened.

for it means three hundred dollars
