Have you ever been'' blackberry picking? If y.ou
have, you've probably noticed that the tips of the
-€herns......ef-ablaekberry-vine.peintawayfromyou.
When you spy that lovely., plump berry way in the
midst of the tangle, and ’ you reach for jt. it's not
so very difficult getting your hand to it—its getting
your hand out that can be painful! The thorns on
the vine seem to act similarly to the barbs on a fishhook
or arrow tip—easy to get into, -not as easy to get
out of!
Sin’ is much like that. Sin is attractive, enticing,
FUN! If it were not, there would be no temptation
to sin. . . "
But sin can also cause us problems and grief. Stealing
can lead to lying. Lying often leads to more lying.
An affair can result in marital problems and intense
emotional pain. Overeating can harm our health,
and the problems accompanying drinking and drugs
are well known. Most important: whenever we sin,
we sin against God, and we will one day have to give
an account for it (2 Corinthians 5:10).
The Bible recognizes that "sin so easily entangles
us" (Hebrews 12:1). But, for those who are interested
in freeing themselves from sin, the Bible also tells
of the solution. The answer, in a nutshell, is the
blood of Jesus. Hebrews 9:14 says that "the blood
of Christ will...cleanse our conscience form , the acts
that lead to death, so that we may serve the living
God!"
* The only way that we an, contact the blood of
Christ, according to the Bible, ibby recreating (figura-
tively) his death, burial, and resurrecion. The sixth
chapter of Romans tells us that this is done through
immersion in water-baptism,
Paul says in Romans 6:6-7 that, having done this,
"We know, that our old self was crucified with him
so that the body of sin might be rendered powerless,
that we should no longer be slaves to sin—becauae
anyone who has died has been freed from sih."
Freedom from sin! Does that sound good? If so,
the blood of Jesus Is the key to your freedom.
