Attorneys here representing oil
companies involved in the State
[ of Texas $99,000,000 penalty
and ouster suit, said today they
admit the bulk of stock of ‘ the
Magnolia Petroleum Company of
Texas was' .Qwned'by John D.
Archbold and H. C. Folger Jr.,
|- of New York, as the state
j petition asserted. They said
Mr. Archbold.and Mr. Folger
held this stock merely as in-
dividuals and that the defense
would try to prove that these
and other stockholders had
neither violated any anti-trust
law, nor attempted to monopolize
the oil business in Texas.
The first meeting of course to
take testimony preparatory to a
trial of this suit next fall was
called here today by. Special
Commissioner Chas. C. Robey,
J The Magnolia Petroleum Compa-
ny and the Corsicana Petroleum
Company are the two Texas
firms involved. No special
counsel is here to represent the
Standard Oil Company of New
York and the Standard Oil Com-
pany of New Jersey, whicn are
included in the penalty section

here today. George C. Greer ot
Beaumont, a defenant who is,
aLu an attorney in the case, I
said he did not represent and
had nut represented in this suit
toe Standard Oil Companies of
New York or New Jersey. The
state excepted to this statement
declaring it a point for legal
settlement.
S. W. Marshall of Dallas, also
denied he was associated with
