Mountains near Lawton, Okla.
. Then—there is Camp Philmont in
New Mexico, the dream that every
scout should go to at least once in
his scouting career. Jimmy Youree

his brother, Joe, too. Joe went last
year. Ask him how he liked it.

Book a Year Club
Could Fill Shelves
of Public Library
A "Book a Year” club has been
proposed for the benefit of the
Electra Public Library. This
kind of club would involve no
meetings, no fees or dues and no
obligations to serve on a com-
mittee or serve breakfast, lunch-
eons or suppers. All you are ask-
ed to do is to donate cash to buy
books to replenish the shelves in
the library.
Members of the board of direct-
ors of the library call attention
to the fact that the cost of books
has increased along with the cost
of living and funds allocated for
the library are not sufficient to
buy new books as needed. If
friends of the library would do-
nate as much as $2.50 each per
year, about the average cost of,
new books, many new titles could
be added and reader interest in-1
creased. The gift of cash instead
of books would avoid duplication.
Books can be purchased cheap-
er by the library thus affecting a
saving. But this must not be
taken as a rejection of donations
of books, these are always wel-
comed and the library is great-
Jy indebted to all those . whose
gifts of books and magazines has
helped to maintain its high
standard of service to the com-
munity.
There will be no “high press-)
ure” campaign but every person]
who wants to help in this worthy
cause is asked to bring or send
their money or check to the Elec-
tra Public Library. Any amount"
you wish to give will be greatly
appreciated. The amount of $2.50
was suggested as representing
the price of the average new
book. \
There is a waiting list for many
of the more popular late volumes.
Patrons quite frequently ask for
some of the new books which we
have not been able to purchase
under existing conditions. Child-
rens books are needed.
Some now in circulation
have to be replaced.
During and following
War Two, the Electra
Committee donated a total of ap-
proximately $1,400.00 which was
a vital contribution in communi-
ty service. Gifts of shelves, gifts
in memory of war veterans and
gifts dedicated to the memory of
beloved citizens have helped to
keep the library progressive. But
many of the books with which the
institution was founded and those
acquired through the twenty-sev-
en years of its existence have had
to be replaced.
The library, established in 1926,
is the only institution in Electra
which gives absolutely free serv-
a large number of the members
of the senior class as special
guests for the 11 AM service Sun-
day. A special section was re-
served for them by marking pews
with red and white streamers. A
beautiful floral arrangement in
the class colors, red and white
adorned the table in front of the
altar.
Pastor Loyd Lester preached
from the subject, "Building a
New Barn”, making his text ap-
plicable to putting emphasis
the mest important ^things
life.

Now the Value of Your Maturing
Series E Bonds Grows
For Ten More Years...at 38 Interest
Do you have any United States Series E Defense Bonds ma:
turing this month? Now they can still go on earning interest—
at 3% compounded semiannually—for ten more years! And you
need not do anything at all with your Bonds. The continued
earning period is automatic.
The Bond you got for $18.75 can now pay you $33.67 ... a
$37.50 Bond ivill be worth $67.34 ,. , and so on. Your return
may amount to as much as 80% on your original investment!
This applies to all Series E Bonds—those you already own and
those you’re now investing in. Every Bond you invest in now
starts earning interest sooner and matures earlier, too.
Any Series E Bond may still be redeemed at any time after you
have held it for two months. But the smart thing to do is to
hold on io your Bonds, as you hold on to savings in any form.
Are you one of the 71^ million Americans who are saving
regularly with Defense Bonds through the Payroll Savings
Plan? Doing something concrete to make their dreams of the
future come true? If not, why not start now? Invest in Bonds
regularly through the Payroll Savings Plan in the shop or office
where you work. It’s one sure way to save because it saves some-
thing out of every check before you have a chance to spend it.
You may ask your pay office to save as little as 25c a week for
you, or as much as you are able. If you can save just $5 a week
regularly through the Plan, in five years you will have $1,367.90
... in 9 years and 8 months, you’ll have $2,850.70 ... in
19 years and 8 months, $6,872.45! All in safe, sure Series EBonds.
No matter how small your income, you can’t afford not to put
something aside for yourself. So join the Payroll Savings Plan
where you work today. Or, if you are self-employed, start the
Bond-A-Month Plan where you bank. Strengthen your own future
and that of your country by saving your money through Bonds.
