shearing and sentenced to two years In

some cars loaded with gravel that the

were standing still when they started to
cross. Just as the children got under the
cars they were started. The oldest child
succeeded in geltiug out, but the young,
est was caught and completely cut in
two by the wheels. No blame is attribu-
table to the railway employes, as they had
no idea of the presence of the children
under the train.
Corn on several farms in this vicinity
has reached Ihe roasting ear stage.

on March 4. the schooner Ellis M iry was

forty-four recruits and fifteen returning
laborers, making a total of seventy-nine.

either drowned or killed after landing.
