Debt and Lawyer*.
The authorship of the following
rather uncomplimentary remarks
about the lawyers is attributed to
Horace Greeley :
I hate lawyers; they do more mi«-

they cause disorder, demoralize ev-
ery form of equality and are the
chip. nbsiai.les to good government.

A JOKE ON “PAT.”
^ I*© politicians are telling a good
joke on W. R. Patterson, who is
making the race for county collec-
tor. On the occasion of Gen. Hogg’s
rccont visit “Pat” called on the
great railroad lighter and remarked:
“My name is Patterson and I’m
a candidate for county collector. ”
^ arn happy to meet you,
Mr. Patter on,”and they embrace(l.
General, in my canvass of the
county i find considerable difficulty
in placing .ayo-lf right. The Hogg

I “Well,” said the distinguished
candidate for gubernatorial lionori'
‘what reply doyon general^ make?’
“By gal>, aah, 1 tell them that I
am a candidate for county collector
and when General Hogg and Hon.
J. W. fnrockniorton make known
who they favor for collector, I shall
take a oosition on the governatorial
question. I ni waiting for them to
show their hand.”
The bystanders were convulsed
with laughter, Hogg made his es-
cape, ana “P*t” was voted master
of the situation.
