A study by the National Committee for an Effedtive
gress (NCEC) shows no House members from Texas with a
current law practice. Members with law firm ties are targets
of public interest groups like NCEC._Rep. B an,
D-Houston, was shown as having income in 1973 from legal
services performed in 1972 when she was still a state senator. j
The study showed that Texas representatives do have other
business interests, such as Rep. Jack Brooks' banking busi-
ness and the land business dealings of Rep. Jim Collins, R-
Dallas. Brooks is a Beaumont Democrat whose district in-
cludes part of Houston and Harris County.
