Here I sit in the cool environs
of the den, sipping on a cold can
of Schmidts and trying to beat
this unseasonal heat that we are
experiencing, and trying to get
my mind off Myrtle Beach as
well. (Thats the first lie this col-
umn provides and not the last.)
I wish we were there already!
All here are really psyched up
for the trip. Looking out the win-
dow and enjoying the beauty of
everything in bloom on my front
lawn, I can't help but think of
the beauty that awaits those of
us who will meet at Myrtle.
Beauty in the thoughts of the
beautiful memories we hold for
each other of past reunions,
beautiful memories of our ser-
vice friendships, and the beauti-
ful memories of our European
sojourn as a fighting unit some
moons ago. No poet or writer
could put in words the feelings
we all had on seeing each other
in Cleveland at last years re-
union, guys like old Mac, Alver-
man, Wenrick, Heublein, Morgan,
Critzas, Hagen, Griffin, Norris,
Dutchka, Buscavage, Beagle,
Branson, Moss, Hulse, and yours
truly. This year B, C, C, HQ.,
and serv. Co's are going all out
to muster all their old Buddies
for the grandest get together
the old 714 ever had. Just by
dropping a short note as a re-
minder to each other and let-
ting each know the arrival dates,
I know we will have the largest
revelrie muster in the div.
OUR write-in campaign is
starting to produce results and
I'm sure by now, all have seen
the hotel registration blank in
last months Hellcat News. I hope
Hendricks can provide some data
and details on prices for the
accommodations, as some of our
people would like to know. To
date we have on our roster of
write-ins; Fred Hagen, Cookie
Hulse, Ed Buscavage, Col Mc
Laughlin, George Beagle, Otto
Heublein, and Lo and Behold,
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Fudge, new-
comers but old friends and a
great guy, Pat Griffin and his
clan are making preparations to
come, Col O.T. Parsons and
spouse of Hqs. will stay at travel
Trailer Park near Myrtle, and
I cannot omit my right hand
Houdini, George Moss, the man
with all the know how of spur-
ring these gatherings. George,
Babie, don't you think that hav-
ing our Co. Comm. there, it
would be just as well that our
old 1st Sgt. Bernie Oliver and
our old Supply Sgt. Walt Badke,
and all the Platoon Leaders like
Smith, Schmidt, and Bob Kres-
ge, should make an appearance
at Myrtle? .... Could anyone
imagine Lawrence Driscoll mak-
ing his debut at this affair?
(GOLD TEETH AND ALL.)
Had a missive from Hal Hen-
dricks with some important news
jottings. On a new listing, our
membership as of Mon. April
20th, revealed 1549, a new high
for the fourth year in a row.
That should mean that some unit
What Am I?
I am a little thing with a big
meaning.
I help everybody.
I unlock doors, open hearts,
dispel prejudice.
I create friendship and goodwill
I inspire respect and admiration.
I bore nobody.
I violate no law.
I cost nothing.
I am pleasing to all people.
I am useful every moment of
the day.
Many have praised me, none
have condemned me.
I AM COURTESY!
reps are really on the ball. Hal
reveals that the Hellcat News
will be increased to 8 pages for
a while, so com eon all you writ-
ers, lets fill in the extra space.
I for one, can't figure out how
Hal manages to run out of dup-
licator fluid, as in Cleveland, his
glass was never empty, or
shouldn't your Mother know a-
bout this, Hal! ole Buddy!
Mother Hagen pens us a short
note that so far, his new business
venture is getting along fine, and
will not keep him from attend-
ing Myrtle at all costs. As for
union dues, Fred, when you at-
tend Myrtle, you will pay up for
next year again as our terminal
year starts right after the re-
union, or if finances run short
at Myrtle, you can always send
in a remmittance soon after.
Critzas wrote to Maw and also
sent him along a can of his Mar-
keted Product, GOOP, a water-
less hand cleaner, (Fred says
'it works too') and he'll have to
order a case soon.
A line from Bucko Griffin also.
Enjoys the Hellcat News immen-
sely. P.J., I only dare to call
Lib' Grand Maw' while way out
in left field shagging flies for
our Barroom softball team. Griff
has 20 days coming in Aug. so
he's making plans to shift his
vacation to tie in with Myrtle
dates. Dingus Day came and
went, now Lib and I look for-
ward to our 23rd Wedding anniv.
comes Memorial Day, May 30th.
That's the day all cannons were
silenced but mine, WOWEEEEE.
And now for dear old George
Moss, that never wearied old
'soldaten.' Pappy Walton wrote
George a long letter here lately.
Thinks the fellows are down on
him cause he never made it into
France with us. Balony, spell-
ed B A L 0 N E Y, means just
that. Pappy. After all, some of
us had to stay here to protect
the home front, no . . . George
finally located Ed Drake and his
wife Toby, who claim they visit
Aldridge almost ever year. Geo-
rge will visit with the Drakes on
his way to Myrtle, so help me
Drakie, bring only nipples for
the 'corn' as I think Big Gawge
was the first transplant victim of
WW2, some soaped up medic
must've inserted a camel stom-
ache without George's knowledge,
what do you think, Dutchka??
He hopes to visit with the Rip
Hodsons too. Tell me, George, it
must be come expense to do all
your work, I can readily see why
Wenrick sent along a 'SHE' note.
Your efforts are paying divid-
ends in the fact that we do hear
one way or another, and some

Been pretty busy at my job.
Just hope I can get this column
into the printer before my dead-
line. Of course getting a monthly
column together for our 134th is
a little difficult when I hadn't
received one letter.
Visited with the John McNaulls'
while on a business trip in Ohio.
We had ice cream and Sassafras
Tea (Ed. Note: GOOD GRIEF!).
Bonita didn't look pregnant, but
John was kinda heavy in the
middle.
My boss gave me four tickets
for the Memorial Day Races in
Indianapolis. Since John Laux is
team manager for the Gene
White racing team you know I'll
be cheering for Lloyd Ruby to
win. (Ed. Note: Maybe Laux can
get you parts for that old Pack-
ard that you've been trying to

news is always better than no
news. I have no idea of how
much of a problem it would
create to have all the 714th re-
gistered all on one floor, but
maybe Hendricks can contact
John Davis, our Myrtle Chair-
man, and see if John can
make arrangements with the hot-
el on this matter. I'm 100 per
cent with your thinking on bring-
ing any and all snapshots any of
us have in scrapbooks and what-
not, plus any addresses that we
don't have to the Myrtle Gung
Ho Affair. I am making plans
to leave Creamery with my group
for Myrtle on Tuas. July 21st,
arriving sometime Wed. and help
in some prior arrangements. We
still have the cooler we bought
in Cleveland and intend to bring
it along. As for the word 'Med-
icinal Tonic' BOOZE, BEER,
WHISTEY. and whatnot, I ima-
gine we can make arrangements
at Myrtle with John Davis as to
the whereabouts of the unexplor-
ed stills we missed in our so-
journ of maneuvers at Ft. Jack-
son.
Hope to be hearing from the
Quicis, Hunts, Bcckadics, Mill-
ners, Kettlers, Goads, Keiffer,
Warnes, Dehart, Sameuls, Phil-
lips, O'Neills, Sotaks, and Gulez-
ians, as well as all you Serv.
Hqs. D, and C co. Lads. In clos-
ing, God Bless all, and a safe
journey Myrtle.
