dent of Merchants Fast Motor
Lines and a pioneer Taylor Coun-
ty resident, died at 3:40 p.m.
Thursday at Hendrick Memorial
Hospital
He had been a patient there
two weeks and had been in ill
health several years.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m.
Saturday at Elliott’s Chapel
of Memories with the Rev. Nor-
man Conner, minister of the First
Christian Church, officiating, as-
sisted by the Rev Wilson Estes,
pastor of the Bethel Temple As-
sembly of God Church.
Burial will be in the IOOF
Cemetery in the family lot.

employed by the Texas & Pacific
Railway freight office in Abilene.
He advanced to assistant agent
in his 16 years with the railroad.
He then went to work for Col.
Morgan Jones as freight and
passenger agent for the Abilene
and Southern Railway Co. He ad-

Markham, 86, died in a Gunter
nursing home Wednesday night
after a brief illness. The tong-
tune Cisco resident had been a
patient in the nursing home four
years.
Mrs. Markham was the widow
of the late William A. Markham
She was born Nov 24, 1876, in
Comanche County and they were
married there June 10, 1806
Services will be held Friday at
3 p.m. at the Church of Christ in
Cisco. She will be buried beside
the grave of her husband in Oak-
wood Cemetery. Rust Funeral
Home is in charge of arrange-
ments.

Bailey McCaughan, 56, fire mar-
shal at Killeen and former fire
chief in Winters, died at 8:25
a.m. Thursday at Hendrick Me-
morial Hospital in Abilene.
Mr. McCaughan suffered a

and one adopted sister, Mrs. E.
H. Holstine of Galveston.

He joined Merchants Fast Mo-
tor Lines in 1932 as general agent
for the entire system from Dallas
to El Paso to Brownwood and
San Angelo. He later was promot-
ed to the position of general su-
perintendent of the line with re-
sponsibility over some 500
employes. He retired in 1956.
Mr. Reed had been a member
ol the First Christian Church
since 1901. He also was a mem-
ber of Abilene 'Masonic Lodge
No. 559 and was a Knight Tem-
plar.

Lee James, 61. died Thursday at
10:45 am. at his home in Hill-
crest Addition. He had been in
ill health about a year.
Services will be held Saturday
at 2 p.m. in the Newby - Davis
Chapel. The Rev. J. B. Fowler Jr.
of First Baptist Church will offici-
ate. Burial will be in Old Run-

moved to Roscoe when he was a
baby. Shortly thereafter they
moved to Runnels County, settl-
ing on a farm in Wilmeth com-
munity.
In 1920 the McCaughans moved
to Winters where he graduated
from Winters High School. Mr.
McCaughan was a member of
the original Winters Blizzards
football squad in the early 1920s.
Following his graduation, he at-
tended for a time the Baylor Col-
lege of Pharmacy at Dallas.
Later he returned to Winters to
work for the Winters Cotton
Warehouse. In 1948 he was em-
ployed by the E. E. Vaughan
Butane Co. here.
Mr. McCaughan joined the
Winters Volunteer Fire Dept, in
1942 and became fire chief in
1949.

ried George J. Robertson June
24, 1895, in Nolan County. They
moved to Mitchell County in 1899
and later lived for a few years
in Stanton. Mr. Robertson died
in 1913. She was a member of
the Loraine First Methodist
Church.
Survivors include a daughter,
Mrs. Josephine Marshall of Lo-
raine, with whom she had lived;
two sons, Alton of Midland and
Pink of Corpus Christi; one broth-
one daughter, Miss Claris Pauline
James, a Texas Tech student; one
brother, Vernon of Miles; two

Dies 10 Days
After Hip Broken
STAMFORD (RNS) - Mrs. Ber-
ry C. Wilkins, 84, of Stamford
died at 120 a.m. in Stamford Me-
morial Hospital, where she had
been since Dec. 10, when she fell
and broke her hip.
Born Dora McIlvain Sept. 29.
1888, in Wise County, she mar-
ried Berry Wilkins in 1912 at
Poteau, Okla. They moved to
Stamford in 1927 from Coryell
County. Mr. Wilkins died Aug. 5,
1955.
She was a member of the Oliver
St Church of Christ, where fu-
pital after a lengthy illness. Fu-
neral plans will be announced by
Higginbotham Funeral Home in
Rising Star.
Burial will be in Lutheran Cem-
etery in Romney, with the Rev.
John G. Elser, Cisco Lutheran
minister, officiating.
Mr. Gerhardt was an uncle of
three Cisco residents, Johnny
Gerhardt, Mrs. Fred Strobel and
Mrs. Marie Fricke.
