By Keith J. Peck
One of histories great tragedies will be remembered next month. On April
15, 1912 one of the finest passenger ships ever built sailed for the USA. It
never reached it's destination. It sank in mid-Atlantic, the victim of a crash
with an ice berg. It was supposed to be unsinkable because this was it's
maiden voyage, there were many famous people on board who ended up on
the list of victims. In memory of this event, there has been constructed in
Belfast a multi-million dollar replica where the original ship was launched.
On April 15th, a huge cruise ship will retrace the one and only journey of
the Titanic. I don't have a clue what a first class ticket on the Titanic cost but
the ship sailing next month is charging up to $9,400 per berth. Let's hope
that their trip is less exciting than the original.
For those who can't travel to Belfast to board the similated Titanic, there
is a half size model in Branson, Mo. that will be presenting a program that
will be somewhat realistic. With these facts in hand, this morning, I was
dumbfounded to read that Branson was hit yesterday by a large tornado that
destroyed a number of homes and theaters in Branson, Mo. I am not so crass
as to believe that God would send a tornado just to remind a careless citi-
zenry that He is still in charge. If the tornado just happens to speak to some-
one's heart, then I say, "Praise the Lord".
May I suggest that God has in days gone by used seemingly natural means
of.getting a recalcitrant man's attention. There is one account where God
spoke to one of His prophets through the prophets mule. Now, I know that
mules can't talk, but God can and does. Too frequently, man fails to hear.
May God forgive us?
In the next few months, God may be speaking to a number of us. He tells
us that he gives us our leaders so it is not beyond reason to believe that He
is telling us who we are to vote for. May our prayer be, "Help us Lord, not
to make a mistake.
