The Student Bar
Association's Spring
Forum "town hall"
meeting this semester is on
Thursday, February 16th at
4:00pm in Atrium area. The
Spring Forum is an open fo-
rum, which gives students an
opportunity to suggest ways
for improving South Texas
College of Law.
The main purpose of the
Town Hall Meeting is to de-
velop open communication

age and control the School.
Its success depends on you -
the students of South Texas
College of Law.
All South Texas students
were invited to submit writ-
ten proposals suggesting a
way to improve the school.
The SBA selected the most
popular and problematic is-
sues, which will be presented
either by the student present-
ing their own issue, or by me,
as the moderator. The panel
of administrators will then
comment on the proposals
and ask for other ideas on
that topic from the students
attending the Spring Forum.
Whether or not you sub-
mit a written proposal, par-
ticipate in the Spring Forum
to support other students'
voicing their concerns and lis-
ten to the administrations' re-
sponse. Without a large
number of students present,
the effectiveness of this pro-
cess is diminished.I look for-
ward to seeing you at the Fo-
rum.
Issues presented by students last spring resulted in:
1. The school extending the Library hours during exam periods from midnight to 2 a.m.
2. Adding a new Career Resources management program that is more efficient and user friendly.
3. Expanding the counseung staff in Career Resources.
4. Increasing the number of employers coming on campus by 25%.
5. Opening the Career Resources Office on Saturday.
6. Implementation of a coffee bar (it was not successful and closed at the end of the Fall Semester).
7. Replacing the furniture in the Student Lounge.
Issues that have already been submitted for this semester's forum include:
1. Financial aid and check disbursements.
2. Accusations of cheating during exams and the school*s response to notification of such cheating.
3. The requirements, testing accommodations, and grading poucies for attention deficit students.
4. Students smoking in front of the school
5. Fairness of the school not providing/allowing Mac testing software.
Disciplinary Report ^ highregistrati°nandadd/dr°pfees'
The South Texas Student Appeals Committee and the Of
fice of the Dean of Academic Affairs will anonymously
publish in Annotations disciplinary actions representing
failures to follow academic rules of conduct. To maintain confi-
dentiality, only the basics of each case are reported. The fol-
lowing report is from last semester. All disciplinary matters are
reported to the appropriate board of law examiners.
1. A 1L student's admission was rescinded for failure to dis-
close three offenses of a criminal nature and one undergraduate
disciplinary matter on the application for admission.
2. A 3L student was suspended for one semester, with gradu-
ation deferred, for failure to disclose three juvenile offenses in
the application for admission.
3. A 1L student received a one-semester suspension for
failure to evidence completion of a baccalaureate degree and
failure to disclose an offense on the application for admission.
4. A 3L student received a written reprimand for plagiarism
and was required to re-take professional responsibility earning
at least a grade of C, complete a 40 page research paper, be sus-
pended for enrollment in the summer session following the im-
position of sanctions, and perform 20 hours of community ser-

5. A 1L student received a verbal and written reprimand for
plagiarism, an F in the relevant course, 20 hours of community
service and probationary status for the remainder of the academic
career.
6. A 3L student was suspended for a semester, suspended
from graduation and from certification for the bar exam for fail-
ure to disclose an offense on the application for admission
Many factors which affect the severity of sanctions cannot
be reported here, including prior reported offenses in the appli-
cation for admission. Delay in student reporting is a major fac-
tor in the severity of the sanction. Many offenses do not come
to the college's attention until after the State Bar authorities re-
port inconsistencies to the law school based on board of law
examiner's investigations.
New students are advised in orientation that there is a grace
period up until the first day of classes to report undisclosed of-
fenses. Most of these can be disposed of by the Office of Aca-
demic Assistance and Student Counseling without committee
involvement.
