Surviving Holiday Break
Questioning
Advocacy Wins Again
By Sabena Singh
Staff Writer
It's almost that time again,
yes, finals are just around
the corner. But we'll soon
get a breath of fresh air when
we enjoy our well deserved
month off for the holidays.
Get ready for festivities, fam-
ily, and fun! Throughout the
semester, you may be able to
balance work and school, but
the winter vacation is the per-
fect time to relax and re-
charge. By the time your last
final rolls around, you will
definitely be ready for a
break.
Regardless of how you
spend your winter break, you
are bound to be bombarded
with the inevitable twenty
questions from your family
and friends, including: How
many years do you have left?
What kind of law are you
going to practice? And, the
kicker, do you have a job?
Avoiding these questions
is slight, so you may as well
think about them in advance.
As a 1L, get ready, because
you will continue to hear
these for the next 3 years!
2Ls have a little leeway, but
it's the 3Ls who have to step
up with all the answers.
During your time off, it's
always fun to cross things off
of your list that you never get
to do during the semester.
Things like taking that long
awaited vacation, getting
dressed up for a night out,

Student advocates from South Texas College of Law captured first place at the 8th
Annual State Bar of Texas Administrative and Public Law Moot Court Competition in
Austin. The team of Kathy Dawson, Ryan Haun and Catina Haynes defeated students
from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in the final round of
competition. The student teams from Texas law schools prepared and argued a fictional
case and issues surrounding a doctor's battle to regain his medical license. The South
Texas team was declared the competition winner and also earned the best written legal
brief award.
'Tis the Season...
Students Face End of Semester Final Battle
As the semester winds
down it's important
to put things into per-
spective. Take time out to
smell the roses for lack of a
better phrase. Yes studying
is important, yes your entire
legal career hangs in the bal-
ance as you approach these
upcoming weeks, and yes
you will be getting about 10
hours of sleep over the next
21 days—that's total. But
don't fear. As any law school
graduate will tell you it is do-
able. You will survive. And
most of you will pass.
So to help you keep
things in perspective this is-
sue of Annotations is a light-
hearted attempt to give you a
breather. Enjoy the jokes, the
short stories, the crossword
puzzles—but in the end put
the paper down and get back
to the books.
See you next semester!

PLACE TO STUDY?
I prefer to be anyplace that
resembles the library the least.
When I need the internet, I have to
get a wireless signal, which requires
me to switch from the comfortable
overstuffed lounging chair in the den,
to balancing on one leg on top of the
chimney.
-Amber Scharn (3L).
I have to be in a study room in the
library in order to concentrate- the
only distraction is the internet, oth-
erwise there is complete solitude.
