Outstanding Student in Vocational Education (Secondary)
Susan is a Marketing Education and Agriculture senior at Bellville High School in Bellville.
She receives on-the-job training in banking services each afternoon at Austin County State
Bank. Despite her busy schedule, Susan ranks first in her class academically, giving her the
position of Valedictorian. Susan is a member of the National Honor Society, "Outstanding
High School Students of America," "Who's Who Among American High School Students,"
and was named Bellville High School's "Student of the Month." She has held numerous
" ~offices in various clubs, including President of the local DECA (Distributive Education Clubs
of America) chapter; President, Secretary and Reporter of FFA (Future Farmers of America);
President and Secretary of her 4-H chapter; Student Council Vice-President, Secretary and
Class Representative; and Senior Class Vice President. Included in her awards and
achievements are "Top Salesperson" for her DECA chapter; Horse Production Award; FFA
-- District Sweetheart Contest Winner; and Grand Champion Market Swine for the Austin
County Fair. Presenting the award is Bobby Weathers.

Outstanding Student in Vocational Education (Postsecondary)
Peggy recently completed an Associate Degree in nursing at Lee College in Baytown and is
currently enrolled in the Lee College Pre-Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing Courses,
preparing to enter the University of Texas School of Nursing at Galveston. While in school,
Peggy has worked at Humana Hospital Baytown in the medical unit, intensive care unit, and
emergency room, among other units. Her skills and interest in nursing have earned her a
position teaching part-time at Lee College in continuing education, conducting an I. V.
Therapy Course for licensed vocational nurses. A natural leader, Peggy has served as
President of the Texas Student Nurses Association (TSNA) for Lee College, TSNA Repre-
sentative to the Lee College Student Congress, and Program and Projects Director for the
State of Texas for TSNA. Peggy is also involved with the Red Cross, and has acted as the
Red Cross Student Representative for Lee College. She has received numerous awards,
including "Outstanding Community Nurse Award," "National Collegiate Minority Leadership
Award," "Scholastic All-American Award," and was named to the "Hall of Fame" and "Minority
Student Talent Roster" for Lee College. Peggy Castilow-Haskins
Outstanding Secondary Special Populations Student (Co-winner)
Lena Trammer, a senior at the Barbara Jordan High School For Careers, is a third year VEH
Office Duplication Program student. She is a highly motivated individual who approaches
each task with enthusiasm. She has consistently maintained high grades and is an outstand-
ing student in her program. In 1988, Lena received an award for Outstanding Student in
Office Duplication. She serves as an office aide at her school. In addition to her school
activities, Lena is very active in her church and serves as the President of the Sunshine Band.
She sings in the Junior Choir and helps with the training of the pre-school age group.Lena Trammer
