nations from pub-
lic school districts,
community col-
leges, and techni-
cal institutes

ored for their
achievements in
vocational educa-
tion by approxi-
mately 220 atten-
dants at the ban-
quet.

ment in school and community service
activities and leadership abilities. The

sistance to schools in planning and im-
plementing programs, curriculum, and
instruction, modernizing equipment and
facilities, and providing career guid-
ance, training, internships, and job
placement.
The pro-
gram began with
a slide/audio
show which in-
troduced the
awards recipi-
ents to the audi-
ence. Each of
the winners and
. finalists received
a framed certifi-
cate of award
and a personal
letter of con-
gratulations from
Texas Governor
William P. Cle-
ments. Also, the
winners and fi-
nalists were pre-
sented official

Representative Robert Earley of Port-
land, recognizing the awards program.
A Senate Resolution was sponsored by
Senator Bill Sims of San Angelo. Manystate legislators provided letters of con-
gratulations for the winners and finalists
from their district.
In addition, the five student winners
were presented with a letterof congratu-
lations from the President of the United
States, George Bush.
Media personality Cactus Pryor
served as Master of Ceremonies for the
event. Chairman of the State Board of
Education Monte Hasie and Texas
Higher Education Coordinating Board
Vice Chairman Cipriano Guerra brought
greetings from their respective boards.
During the ceremony, State Repre-
sentative Bill Carter and Bobby Weath-
ers, President of the Vocational-Techni-
cal Education Development Founda-
tion, assisted Council members in pre-
senting the awards for the evening.
The awards program was estab-
lished to publicly recognize those ind-
viduals who have responded to the call
for excellence in the classroom to meet
the growing and changing demands of
the Texas marketplace. # # # #
