Patrick Heath Public Library

About the Library

In 1951, members of the Boerne Grange recognized the need for a public library in Boerne. With only skills and time, the Boerne Public Library opened in a small room adjacent to the fire station in January 1952. With Grange winnings from a national contest and state and federal government matching funds, the library was moved to a new, larger location in 1967.

The City of Boerne took over the operation of the library in 1977, hiring its first full-time librarian. In 1990 with a collection of 30,000 items, the library moved into the historic Dienger building and stayed there until 2011 when the new 30,250 square foot Patrick Heath Public Library was opened. Today, the library houses 60,000 items in a variety of formats, provides programming and cultural enrichment for people of all ages, local history archives, and stands as the center of the community in a rapidly growing area of the country.
