Established in 1903 by The Home & State Company and initially edited by George Rankin, The Home and State was a semi-monthly newspaper from Dallas that includes articles and stories on a variety of family and social topics, with an emphasis on temperance and prohibition. Early issue mastheads read, "DIVERSIFICATION -- IMPROVED METHODS -- PERMANENT PROSPERITY." In 1907, the national organization, the Anti-Saloon League, took over ownership of the newspaper, and it soon became the league's voice in Texas.
