Marshall, Texas Collection of Sims McCutchan

The collection’s photographs, ephemera items, and postcards document the history of Marshall, Texas from the 19th through the mid-20th centuries and reflect the collector’s continued fascination with the city where he grew up. Sims McCutchan (Marion Sims McCutchan, III) was born on June 6, 1942. His paternal ancestors came to Marshall in the mid-19th century. The family collection reflects his grandfather’s and his father’s careers with the Marshall Post Office, his mother’s long career as teacher in the Marshall public schools (1927-1970), and their friends, associates, and activities. Photographs of historic Marshall buildings taken by photographer Julian Barnes in the 1930s are also included. Additional items acquired by Sims McCutchan over the years reflect his interest in the Square, downtown Marshall, commercial and industrial buildings, and restaurants.
