History

Named for Comanche chief and Cynthia Ann Parker's husband Peta Nocona, Nocona's growth began in the 1870s when William Broaddus and D. C. Jordan established a ranch in the area and with the later extension of the Gainesville, Henrietta and Western Railway. The weekly paper served the town and greater Montague County and is still in publication to this day.
