Mike Cox Newspaper and Texana Collection

About the Physical Collection

This collection includes nearly 400 copies of historical newspapers from the early 19th century to the 2000s. Over 200 are based locally in Texas, while the remainder are from various cities throughout the United States and abroad, such as Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and London. They mostly commemorate major events and stories, with particular emphasis on happenings in or related to Texas, and some are the final edition of their particular paper or may be the only remaining copies of short-lived newspapers. A few items are facsimiles or antique photostats of the original printing. The collection includes book advertisements, magazines and journals, pamphlets, and broadsides. It also includes photographs and a scrapbook about the Eagle Pass Newspaper and Joseph O. Boehmer.
