About Victoria Poyser Lisi

Victoria Poyser Lisi is an American illustrator and artist who specializes in science fiction and fantasy. She holds a BFA from Evergreen State College in Olympia, and she was inspired to start her work by the World Fantasy Convention in 1979.

From the late 1970s through the 1990s, she created both cover and interior art for books and magazines. More recently, she has focused on children's book illustrations and instructional painting books. Her earlier paintings were largely in acrylics, but she now prefers to use watercolors.

Lisi taught illustration for six years at Western Connecticut State University, but now lives in Colorado where she teaches drawing and painting at Aims Community College in Loveland.

About the Physical Collection

Held by UNT Special Collections, these materials include original artwork, sketches and concept art, prints, published works, and cover illustrations. Many items are still sealed in their original plastic covers and signed by the artist herself. Several are also framed or attached to mat boards. Media used include pencil as well as watercolor and acrylic paints. Content covers all manner of fantasy-related creatures and scenes, including Santa's workshop mermaids, angels, wizards and sorcerers, dragons, etc. Learn more in our finding aid.
