About Gypsy Ted Sullivan Wylie

Gypsy Ted Sullivan Wylie (1890-1978) was one of the foremost contributors to Abilene, Texas' music heritage during the first half of the twentieth century. While at McMurry College, she served as the first Dean of Fine Arts and taught voice at the college from its founding in 1923 until her retirement in 1953.

About the Collection

This collection provides a unique look at Abilene's history as it relates to McMurry University and music. The contents include scrapbooks, photographs of the Sullivan family, photographs of events at McMurry College, memorabilia of Abilene's music history from the 1920s through the early 1960s, and musical scores from operas presented at the college and other Abilene venues.
