German-Language Newspapers
The newspapers of this collection represent multiple German-speaking Texas communities, including those in Galveston, Bellville, Houston, and Austin. German immigration to Texas throughout the nineteenth-century created clusters of German communities known as the German Belt. Stretching from the coastline through Hill Country, these German towns hosted vibrant German culture in Texas, even to the extent of creating a unique Texas-German dialect.
