Giddings Area Newspapers

The Giddings Area Newspaper Collection includes the Giddings News, the Giddings Times & News, and the Lexington Leader.

First established in 1886 as the Advocate, the Giddings Times & News is a weekly newspaper locally owned by a Lee County native. The publication has seen many iterations through the years with changes in ownership and mergers with other local newspapers, the most recent of which occurred in 1967. The Giddings Times & News is a member of the Texas Press Association and is the newspaper of record for the city of Giddings. The newspaper, which reports on news for the entire county, has a weekly circulation of 5,000. The paper regularly covers Giddings City Council meetings, Lee County Commissioners Court meetings, and Giddings ISD School Board meetings, thereby providing the community a detailed account of local government. Additionally, the newspaper keeps the community apprised of an array of issues of local importance and offers a local perspective on national news, analyzing the effect national events have on the local community.

Established in 1997, the Lexington Leader is a weekly newspaper that serves the city of Lexington and all of Lee County. The locally-owned newspaper regularly covers Lexington City Council meetings, Lee County Commissioners Court meetings, and Lexington ISD School Board meetings, providing an accessible record of local government proceedings. A member of the Texas Press Association, the Lexington Leader publishes a recurring newspaper column detailing historical events from the Lexington area. Additionally, the newspaper keeps the community apprised of an array of issues of local importance and offers a local perspective on national news, analyzing the effect national events have on the local community.
