About the Collection
Family papers from the first and second generation of the influential Kempner Family of Galveston.
These handwritten letters are from February 1898 to March 31, 1899, written by Daniel Webster Kempner to his mother Eliza Seinsheimer and brother Isaac Herbert. The collection also includes materials related to Kempner during an extended trip he took to Europe.
Other miscellaneous letters, cards to and from Kempner, his wife Jeane Bertig Kempner, and daughter Mary Jean Kempner. Mary Jean Kempner went on to become a war correspondent, documented in the scrapbook spanning the years 1934 to 1946.
