Beville Family Collection

This collection contains a selection of items from the family of Alexander Archer Beville, a dentist from Amelia County, Virginia. After the Civil War, Beville and family moved to Waco, Texas in 1870, and according to several sources, he was the first dentist to reside and have a dental practice in Waco. His son, Alexander Jacob Beville, joined his father's dental practice in 1892 after graduating from the Dental Department of the University of Maryland. Dr. Alexander Archer Beville was one of the organizers and an officer of the Texas Dental Association. The family photographs and the mother-of-pearl dental instruments were inherited by their descendant, Jane Katherine Beville, who died in 2006. These Beville family items were purchased at her estate sale in 2007.
