Volume XXXVIII, No. 3 Women Airforce Service Pilots WW 11 September 1989
IT'S SEATTLE FOR 1990 REUNIONCo-chairmen Rita and Marjory have had some assistance from
several WASP and things are pretty well under control. However,
they are going to need much more help. Any WASP who would
like to volunteer her talents, ideas, or labor will be greatly ap-
preciated. Just drop a card to one of the co-chairmen: Rita
Webster, 220 NW 191 St., Seattle, WA 98177, (206) 542-2223,
or Marjory Munn, 300 W. Prospect, Seattle, WA 98119, (206)
285-2035.
Seattle is known as the "Emerald City" -- ample precipitation
keeps it verdant. Wonder what the derivation of the word Seattle
is? It seems the early settlers chose it to honor their friend, Chief
Sealth.
There are many interesting places to go and things to do in the
Seattle area. The next issue will highlight some of them. Plan to
extend your stay a few days after reunion and enjoy one of the
best vacations of your life! After months of personal contact, letters, telephone calls, and
negotiations, Asilomar informed President Barbara Lazarsky that
it would not be able to accommodate the WASP Biennial Reunion
in 1990. As Seattle was the other site on the ballot, Vice President
Jane Straughan contacted WASP in Seattle to make and confirm
arrangements there. Rita Webster (43-6) and Marjory Munn
(44-5) accepted co-chairmanship of the reunion.
The headquarters will be in the city's newest luxury downtown
hotel, the Stouffer-Madison, conveniently located to points of
interest and local transportation. The hotel has sufficient space
to house all WASP and guests, has large meeting rooms, and a
banquet hall that can accommodate the entire group. As an
added bonus, it has an indoor swimming pool.
Dates for the Biennial Reunion are Thursday, August 30 to
' onday, September 3 (Labor Day). This holiday weekend is
sually a light one for downtown hotels, thus the excellent room
rate of $65 a night (plus 14% tax), single or double. The peak of the 605-foot Space Needle pierces the Seattle skyline. From its observation deck, one looks south to towering Mount Ranier,
silent sentinel of the Cascade Range; to the west to the majestic Olympic Mountains; in every direction at green trees and blue water.!
