x'rom the days of Paul, the Christian world has insisted that the Cross and the
pty Tomb must be kept together. Yet one is often associated with Hirfcw- and the
ser with light. Isn't Calvary Merit Hod Easter bright? U the Croat ia blackneeet H ie
n^derknem baton the Dawn; it it the Sacrifice baton the triumph.
• ' For Jeeue there was light all the way; both Calvary and the Reeurrectkm had
pert of the loving will of Qod. For He bad peered through Qetheemane; there
We had accepted the via dolorosa ae the path of bWsg; lie wee never alone on that
fateful Friday, far He walked with the Father God. The world may have lain in dark*
non at the Crucifixion, but there was no darkness in the soul of the of fialilsa;
He was the Son of God and had dedicated himself to the Father's will. To the world
there was Death and the dark; it Was Blade Friday. But to the earning souI of Joan
Christ then was Lite arid the tight; it was Good Friday.
And so it has become for the Christian world. The Man who arose from the dead
on Easter morning had carried a Croes on Friday. Perhaps Easter will mean most to
those of us who have learned during Lent to bear as well as to wear a Cross. The
Christian symbol was not intended to refer only to the Croes of Jesus; we set the Croes
atop our churches and we exalt the Croes within the Church, representing a way of life.
It is God’s way as well as the way of Jesus; God has forever carried a Cross, and with a
smile upon His face. Godly women end men have ever carried a Cross and it has brought
joy to their hearts and blessings to mankind. For the Cross spells Life for all of us; and
he lives best and knows the deepest joy who has chosen to bear his Croes as he discovers
in it the will of his God. Moot blotted it ho who, like hit God, can carry the Croat with
a amile. \
The CrdM and the Tomb have both been snatched from their association with
Death; for they have been transformed by love and self-giving and by a Presence of
radiance end glory. He Uvea and we, too, ahall live, in the measure in which we "team
to kiaa the Crow,” our cross w wefllaa Hit.
