Notes

Photograph of site preparation for the future El Paso, Texas downtown United States Post Office. The location is the southeast corner of Mills Avenue and Stanton Street. According to a Treasury Department log, located at the Border Heritage Center of the El Paso Public Library, the general excavation of the site began on June 29th, 1917 at 1 PM. This U.S. Post Office building will eventually have a basement, a main floor, and a second floor for offices. Handwritten text on the back of the photo says "August 11th 1917, Looking West", "William H. Maxwell Contractor.", and "Certified as Correct" with a signature and date from J. C. Elliott.
