A Strange Power
In Washington I have talked
to some of the best informed
persons working to safeguard
our nation's internal security.
They say there is a force at
work in America protecting the
•sobversive activities of the Com%
munists and undermining our in-
ternal defensive strength, and
that the recent. Supreme Court
decisions have greatly aided this
force. Military leaders such as
General Mark Clark, General
Wedemeyer and others have
spoken of this force as a mys-
terious “they” — declaring that
it exercised power over the U. S.
Government sufficient to brine
victory for the Communists ir
-Korea and defeat for the TJ.S.A
Congress must quickly rebuild
a set of internal safeguards a-
gainst the Communist apparatus.
But Congress is not likely to
move into this area with suffi-
cient determination unless you
and I get busy fulfilling one of
the responsibilities of citizen-
ship —writing our Congressmen
and Senators and our President,
asking them to immediately en-
act legislation recreating the le-
rgal protections for our internal
defense which the Supreme Court
has destroyed.

of the Communist enemy in our

way he operates -and the power
