David Posas Feted
With Party On
Tenth Birthday
David Posas was honored on
his tenth birthday by his par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Jose Posas
of 1027 Diomede Drive on Sat-
urday, Jan. 23, with a party for
18-guests. Attending were Todd
Petty, Blake Pierce, Mike Gar-
rett, Richard Ochoa, Jack Mc-
Carty, Ricky Rodriguez,
Dwayne Phillips, Joe Moreno,
Mike Cowman, Brett Carter,
Eugene Massey, David August-
son, Mike Hall, Robert Rodri-
guez, Macario and Vidal Perez,
all from Portland; and Ricky
Moreno of Corpus Christi and
Charles Lopez from Rockport.
Punch, cake, hot dogs and
. chips were served. They played
games and broke a Pinata full
*’• of goodies.
Wildkittens
Win One,

Lose One
The Wildkittens split a pair of
games in the past week. They
defeated West Oso 45 to 38 in
a regular district game but
dropped a non-district tourna-
ment game to Sinton 32 to 28. In
district play the Wildkittens
have now won 11 and lost none.
In the West Oso game Jim
West scored 17 points. Others
hitting the basket were Kelly
Gavagan 11, James Thompson
4, Dennis Owen 6, Cary Avery 4,
Bill Powers 2 and Wayne Loom-
is 2.
In the Sinton game West was
again high with 12 points. Oth-
ers scoring were Cavagan 4,
Thompson 1, Owen 1, Avery 4,
Osborne -1 and Mendows 2.

West Oso
The G-P Freshmen played a
pair of games with West Oso
last Thursday. The B team w-on
their game by a score of 45
to 39 and the A team defeated
the Bears 81 to 54.
Stevenson hit 15 points for the
“B” team boys to take high
point honors. Milsap scored
4, Stevens 2, Krull 10, Hurst 6,
and Hedrick 2.
In the “A" game Crosswhite
dropped in 26 points to lead
the Cats while Daniels made 12,
McNair 17, Meyer 8, Pena 6,
Johnson C, Williams 2 and Ami-
strong 4.

Presbyterian Church
Elects Officers
Officers were elected at a con-
gregational meeting of the First
Presbyterian Church last Sun-
day. Elected as ruling elders
were Robert L. Hutsell and Jo
Bob Taylor. Deacons elected
were A1 McCulloch, Ed Shep-
ard, John Harris, Camion
Brown and Clovis Higginboth-
am. Following a period of se-
veral weeks instruction and
training, the new officers will be
ordained and - or installed on
Sunday, May 2.

Presbyterian Church
To Have Missionary
Speaker February 3
Rev. Ben Bateman, Presby-
terian missionary to the urban-*
industrial area of Taejon,' Ko-
rea, will speak and show slides
at the First Presbyterian Church
at 6 p.m. Wednesday, February
3. Mr. Bateman, who is a native
of Dallas, was appointed mis-
sionary in 1967. He had pre-
viously served Presbyterian con-
gregations in Arkansas. He is
married and has three children.
A sandwich supper will pre-
cede the talk and slides. Each
family is to bring sandwiches,
chips, and drinks.
B Team Wins
Over Taft
The G-P “B” team defeated
Taft last Fridas night by a score
of 49 to 31.
Pud Mier set the pace for the
B-teamers with 16 points. The
Cats took a 12 to 7 lead in the
first quarter and held it through-
out the game.
Others scoring were Tom
Crowson 2, Craig Howell 8, Greg
Osborne 8, Jackie Foss 6. Alan
Wilson 2 and Victor Garcia 3.
East Cliff
PTO Hears
Mrs. Drewett
The East Cliff PTO met Tues-
day, Jan. 26. Tne program w'as
on the Special Education class-
es in Gregory - Portland Schools
LaWanda Drewett, who is su-
pervisor of the special education
classes, was the speaker.
The PTO membership drive
prize was won by Mrs. Sue Lynn
Lee’s third grade class. The at-
tention prize for PTO meeting
was won by Mrs. lola Wood-
ruff’s second grade and Mrs.
Frances Shannon’s fourth grade.
The next PTO meeting will be
for electing officers for the 1971
and 1972 school year. This meet-
ing will lx? sometime in March.
Covered Dish
Supper Held
A covered dish supper was
held Friday night at Kolb Che-
verolet for wives and husbands
of Bible School teachers at the
Church of Christ.
Brunch Is Held
In Kays Home
A brunch was held by the
members of the Zeta Psi Chapt-
er of Epsilon Sigma Alpha So-
rority in the home of Mrs. Fred
Kays recently. It was followed
by a special meeting of the ways
and means committee.
Members present were Mrs.
Brasham, Mrs. C. J. Sloan, Mrs.
Wilbur Dover, Mrs. John Lucey,
Mrs. Carmon Brown, Mrs. Bill
Koester, Mrs. Don Anderson,
Mrs. Howard Williams, and Mrs.
Jimmy James.
The next meeting will be on
February 2.
Slow Pokes
Win First In
Bowling League
The Slow Pokes have placed
first in the the Portland Doll’s
Bowiing League. Team mem-
bers are June Owen, Shirley
McGulliafd and Rosetta Roach.
Rowling high score was Gloria
Ficken with 452.
Cardwell Family
Moves Here
From Taft
New residents of Portland are
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cardwell and
their three year old daughter,
Vicki, who moved from Taft
about two weeks ago and are
now residing at 223 Pecos Drive.
Mr. Cardwell is a farmer and
works with his father. The fami-
ly will attend the Methodist
Church.
The Cardwells are delighted to
be here as their home was bad-
ly damaged during Celia and
they have been living in a trail-
er.
Cardwell was raised in Taft
and Mrs. Cardwell originally
came from Borger. Both are
graduates of Texas Tech, he
with an Agriculture Engineer de-
gree, and she a degree in ele-
mentary education.
Mrs. H. L. McGregor had sur-
gery on January 11. She is at
home now for recovery.
