A Quiet Christmas.
The people of Graham, enjoyed
one of the most quiet and order-
ly Christmases we have ever had
in this country. There was but
little drinking and nearly all
that there was seemed to be of
the good humored variety and
there were no rows of any conse-
quence in the county. The trade i
of the Graham merchants seem-1
ed to be very good, judging by I
the number of pe^ole who came
into the the town and thronged1
the stores during the week be-
fore Christmas day. It was
noted, however that the pur
chases were not as large as is
common anc that the people did
not spend so much money “fool
ishly" as is sometimes the case.
This was proper too for there
is iio money in the country to
burn or to throw at the birds.
We are all doing very well, bet-
ter indeed than we expected
some time ago, but it is neces-
sary for all the people to exer
cise economy in order that all
may get through without too
great sacrifices. We have tin*
bravest and best neople on earth,
when it comes to meeting the
question of hard times, drouth j
or other public calamity and j
they are not at all discouraged j
by the partial failure of crops in
this country for the past two
years.
