5) MADE AN HONORARY MEMBER OF DELTA KAPPA GAMMA TEACHER
GROUP BECAUSE OF HER VESTED INTEREST AND DEEP DEVOTION
TO TEACHING TECHNICIANS, NURSES AND MEDICAL STUDENTS.
HER EVERY DAY PHILOSOPHY MIGHT WELL BE STATED THAT
"ONE GIVES NOTHING UNLESS HE GIVES OF HIMSELF" ENGENDERS A DEEP
UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORTH AND NEEDS OF OTHERS. UPON THIS BASIC
TRUTH SHE HAS BUILT WHAT SHE REFERS TO AS HER PROFESSIONAL
"LIFE INSURANCE," THE ASSETS OF WHICH ARE MANY MEDICAL STUDENTS
SHE HAS HELPED AND IS HELPING TO COMPLETE THEIR MEDICAL SCHOOL
EDUCATION.
THE HONORARY DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF SCIENCE WAS AWARDED BY TEXAS
CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FOR RESEARCH IN ESTABLISHING THE RELATIONSHIP
OF CERTAIN POWDERS, COMMONLY USED ON SURGEONS GLOVES, TO POST
OPERATIVE INFECTIONS. SMALL BITS OF POWDER REMAINING IN OPERATIVE
WOUNDS WERE NOT ABSORBED BUT ACT AS A FOREIGN BODY IRRITANT TO
INVITE SERIOUS INFECTION. THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS FINDING IS OF
SUCH GRAVITY THAT DR. OWEN NEED ADD NO OTHER DISCOVERY TO THIS ONE
TO DESERVE THE GRATITUDE OF BOTH THE PROFESSION AND MANKIND FOR
THIS VALUABLE ADDITION TO ASEPTIC SURGERY.
THE BED ROCK OF OUR PROFESSIONS GREATNESS IS BUILT ON DEDICATED
INDIVIDUALS, SUCH AS DR. OWEN, DEVOTED TO THEIR PROFESSION, CHURCH,
FAMILY AND THE BROTHERHOOD OF MAN AND WILLING TO ASSUME LEADERSHIP
PAVING THE WAY TO BETTER UNDERSTANDING AND THE NEEDS OF OTHERS.
