Cowboy: Church ministers to stock show
from PAGE 1A
Organizers of the stock show for the
first time moved church services from a
cattle barn into the auditorium.
"When you get a deal this good, it's
hard to believe," Weaver said. "You need
to understand that the reason it is such
a good stock show is it is put together
with a servant attitude. You can't run a
church or rodeo with tyranny."
Shepherd's Valley Cowboy Church
is entering its 14th year serving the
northern Johnson County community.
It holds three Sunday services, but for
three weeks the church has sacrificed its
pastor and some members to put on ser-
vices at the Fort Worth Stock Show.
"Our church is more concerned with
what we're doing outside the walls of the
church than on the inside," Weaver said.
"We're working together in the commu-
nity to build a kingdom."
He hopes the services may be able to
inspire some in attendance - whether a
resident from down the road or outside
the state - for positive reasons.
"For two weeks, we have had a series
on pride and then on faith," he said. "If
you get rid of pride, you need to be pre-
pared to be leaders."
About 400 visitors attended the ser-
vice, while some were unable because
of youth livestock heifer shows running
concurrently on the other end of the
show grounds. The church purchases
150 tickets to the show and rodeo as a
gesture to thank event organizers.
"I'm not doing this to please people,"
he said. "I'm doing this to please God."
