Lillian firefighters required assistance from Alvarado,
Rendon, Venus and Briar Oaks departments to battle a
house fire at 10545 County Road 519. Keene also
responded to the fire at a later time with additional
tanker trucks due to a lack of fire hydrants in the area.
The home, which sustained heavy damage, was occu-
pied. However, no injuries were reported.

Tis the season
to drive sober
The Texas Public Safety
Commission has approved
a special DWI enforcement
program by the Texas High-
way Patrol. The enhanced
patrols will be funded
through a grant from the
Texas Department of Trans-
portation.
Highway Patrol troopers
will conduct patrols looking
for drivers who are intoxi-
cated in high-risk locations
during the times when alco-
hol-related crashes are most
frequent.
“If you’ve been drinking,
you need to make other ar-
rangements to get home,”
David G. Baker, the DPS as-
sistant director of the Texas
Highway Patrol said. “If you
don’t, you may find your-
self in one of our black and
whites, on your way to jail.”
The targeted enforcement
periods in 2010 and 2011
will be during the Christmas
and New Year’s holiday,
spring break in mid-March,
Independence Day and the
Labor Day holiday.
