Hamilton
passed
away on
February 5,
2014 at the
age of 63, in
Houston,
after a short
battle with
cancer. He Hamilton
was bom on March 7 to Henry
J. and Mary Gene Hamilton.
Mike graduated from Edna
High School in 1968. He en-
listed in the U.S. Marine Corps
in Sept. 1968 and served a tour
of duty in Vietnam. He gradu-
ated with a Bachelor of Sci-
ence degree in geology from
Texas A&M University. He
worked in the oil and gas field
for Dow Chemical, Apache
Corp., and was currently em-
ployed for Corum Production
Company.
He leaves behind his wife of
42 years, Sharon Gloor Hamil-
ton; daughter, Gretchen Pyle
and husband John; son, Jason
Hamilton, grandson, Judson
Pyle; siblings, Katherine Davis
and husband Ken, Linda Rehak
and Leslie Hamilton. In addi-
tion, he is survived by several
nieces and nephews and many
wonderful and special friends.
He was preceded in death by
his brother, Harvey Hamilton,
parents, Henry J. and Mary
Gene Hamilton and brother-in-
law, Robert Rehak.
A memorial service will be
held in the Houston area on
Saturday, Leb 15 at 11 a.m. at
Bear Creek Baptist Church
(5901 N Lry Rd, Katy, TX
77449).

Clara Anderson Hicks, of
Edna, age
100, passed
away
Wednesday,
Leb. 5,
2014. She
was bom in
El Campo
on Oct. 2,
1913, to An-
drew John and Alma Samon
Anderson.
She was a loving mother,
grandmother and friend who
will be dearly missed. She
touched the hearts of everyone
that knew her.
Clara is survived by her
daughter, Karen Hicks of Vic-
toria; son, Larry Hicks of
Edna; grandchildren, Ray
Hicks and Todd Hicks; great-
grandchildren, Scarlett Hicks-
Muniz and Hunter Hicks;
great-great-grandchildren,
Bianca Muniz and Myka
Muniz.
She is preceded in death by
her parents, husband, Weldon
Chester Hicks; sisters, Elsie
Nelson and Delphia Nelson.
Visitation was Saturday, Feb.
8, from 9 to 10 a.m, at Oak-
lawn Funeral Home. Funeral
service followed at 10 a.m. at
Oaklawn Funeral Home
Chapel with burial at Memory
Gardens Cemetery of Edna.
Rev. Larry Green officiated.
Pallbearers wiere Dennis Si-
mons, Todd Hicks, Ray Hicks,
Hunter Hicks, Troy Lynn
Quinn and Glenn Martin.

Clarence Webel
Clarence Lee (Butch) Webel
of Ganado
died Feb. 2,
2014. He
was bom
Oct. 9,1944
in Ganado
to the late
Fred and
Lydia
T e g e 1 e r
Webel. He worked for Latimer
Service Station in Edna and
then for Alcoa for 35 years. He
married Katherine Latimer
Webel om March 9, 1965 in
Edna.
He is survived by his wife;
daughter Melinda Webel
Reeves; son Bobby Webel; sis-
ter Louise Weise of Victoria;
and brother Don Webel of Vic-
toria. He is also survived by
five grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by
his sister Mary Ann Luedeke of
Ganado and William Webel of
Victoria.

Paul Dittrich
Paul Dittrich, 97, died Feb.
3, 2014. He was bom Feb. 18,
1916 to William and Julia
(Beran) Dittrich in Lytton
Springs in Caldwell County.
In 1918 the family moved to
their farm in the Cordele Com-
munity, where he attended
school in the two room school-
house in Lower Cordele. In
1936 he joined the Civilian
Conservation Corps. He was
stationed in Bastrop and Ten
Sleep, Wyo. After serving
about one year, he was dis-
charged from the Corps and re-
turned to the family farm in
Cordele. In 1940 he joined the
U.S. Army Signal Corps at Fort
Sam Houston. After serving in
several Army posts in the
United States, his company
was shipped overseas in 1943.
His signal company made the
amphibious invasion in Sicily,
in Salerno, Italy at Anzio, Italy
and Southern France. While
serving with the Seventh Army
in France he received a Battle
Field Commission to 2nd Lt. in
1944. After the war ended he
returned to the United States in
November 1945.
After being separated from
the service he was employed as
a radio technician for several
years, eventually he owned and
operated a radio and television
business until his retirement in
1988. For most of his adult life,
he was an amateur radio oper-
ator, with the call sign
W5LCR.
In 1951 he married Anita
DeBord. They had no children.
He was a member of the
Methodist church, an active
member of the Edna Volunteer
Fire Department for over 40
years, a life member of the
American Legion Post 346 in
Ganado, a life member of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post
8556 in Lolita. He was also a
charter member of the World
War II Memorial in Washing-
ton, D.C.
Paul is preceded in death by
his wife Anita; parents; infant
sister, Bessie Dittrich; sisters:
Mary Quarles, Lucy Calcote,
and Minnie Sowell; and broth-
ers John Dittrich, Henry Dit-
trich and Alvin Dittrich.

Virginia Kurner
Virginia Kurner passed from
this life to
be with
Jesus on
Feb. 6,2014
at 92. John
3:16 “For
God, so
loved the
world that
he gave his
only Son, that whoever be-
lieves in him should not perish
but have eternal life.”
Virginia “Jinny” was pre-
ceded in death by her hus-
band of 58 years, Raymond
Kurner and by her son Roger
Kurner who died at age 11.
She is survived by her son
Bryan Kurner, his wife Joy
and their children Mark and
Grace of San Antonio. Also
surviving daughter Pam
Kurner and her husband
Philip Bertram of Galveston
as well as Sister Mabel Evans
of Galveston and numerous
nieces and nephews.
In Houston prior to retire-
ment, Jinny loved trips to the
beach in Freeport or Galve-
ston. She was a homemaker,
Girl Scout Troop leader, Sun-
day School Teacher, Vacation
Bible School leader, worked
to increase laws against child
abuse, and was active in the
Republican Party. Later she
worked in retail especially
enjoying working in the china
department at Joske’s. She
was always there to nurse
sick family members over the
years.
Jinny and Ray moved to
Cape Carancahua in the
1980s after retirement and en-
joyed living by the bay. Jinny
enjoyed fishing and swim-
ming with friends. Jinny was
active at the Carancahua
Chapel, Capers and for a
while ran the local food
pantry.
She organized a new Ex-
tension Homemakers club to
be able to include a minority
woman. Jinny was a kind and
loving person who sacrificed
for her family and was gener-
ous to all. She had a great
sense of humor and was witty
even into her last years.
Visitation will be from 4 to
6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14 fol-
lowed by memorial services
at 6 p.m. at Schertz Funeral
Home, 2217 FM 3009,
S hertz.
A memorial service will be
held at 10:30 a.m. on Satur-
day, Feb. 15 at the Caranc-
ahua Community Center
Chapel, CR 470, Palacios.
Graveside services will be
held at 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 15
at Forest Park Westheimer
Cemetery, 12000 Westheimer
Road, in Houston.
Pallbearers include Mark
Kurner, Keith Koby, Charles
Chambless, Bryan Kurner,
Jim Heath, Tim Moore, Paul
Abraham, Greg Gleason and
Carl Baldwin
