Now that iiaiioy’s comet has
changed over from the cast side
of the sun lo I he west side and
will i>n April l become visible to
th • naked eye for the first lime,
we should know at just what
point in the sky to look for it. I
shall give il position for a few
dates.
April I Halley's cornel will ris 1
fifty minutes ahead of the sun
and four degrees and thirty
minutes north of the sunrise
point, being on this date at the
upper edt e of the t wilight line in
the early morning and rising
earlier each morning until May
10, wlien it will ri-e iwo hours
and twenty minute;, ahead of the
sun. ll will then return toward
the sun again, rising later each
morning. (>n May IS it will set
nearly with the aim again, and
on May 20 the comet will set one
hour after the sun sets and one
degree south of the sunset point,
and on May 00 the comet will set
three hours and fifty minutes
after the sun seta and eighteen
degrees nnd twenty-five minutes
south of the sunset point. The
comet will be visible to the nuk-
ed eye from April 1 until June,
except when too close to the sun
at inferior conjunction, May 10
to 20, and will be very bright
April JO until May 00 and will
continue visible to the naked eye
in the evenings until June JO,
1010. It will grow less bright
each evening until it entirely
fades away. With our telescopes
we shall continue to see it two
months later than with the nak-
ed eye. I,. F. FOOTS.
