Society seeks swimmers
Swim for Life, an annual swim-a-thon to benefit the American Cancer
Society, is looking for people interested in raising money to help conquer
cancer.
“Anybody can do it,” said coordinator Natalie Rostentswieg. "You
don’t have to be swimmers. You just have to be able to swim ,a lap,
which is about 25 feet."
People who want to sign up may pick up a sponsor sheet in the Dean of
Students Office on the third floor of the University Union before the
swim-a-thon. she said.
The swim-a-thon will be from 11 a m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
at the indoor swimming pool at TWU.
Each swimmer will get a T-shirt and a certificate.

"Relationship Factors In Intensive Psychotherapy" will be discussed at
a seminar from 9 a.m. to noon and from I to 5 p.m. Saturday in Wooten
Hall 222. The seminar will feature Dr. Elgan Baker, director of clinical
psychology training at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis.
The seminar will describe a theoretical framework for understanding
the role of relationship factors in psychodynamic therapy, and how these
vary for different patients at varying levels of characterological maturity.
Baker said.
Groups sponsoring the seminar include the graduate association, the
department of behavioral medicine at Flow Memorial Hospital, the NT
Behavioral Science Foundation and the NT psychology department.
The seminar costs $10 for graduate association members, $20 for NT

NEW YORK (AP)—A grand jury indicted Bernhard Goetz on four
counts of attempted murder Wednesday, one day after he refused to testi-
fy before the panel about why he shot four youths on a subway train Dec.

the same incident.
The second grand jury also charged Goetz with four counts of fourth-
degree assault, one count of first-degree reckless endangerment and one
count of second-degree criminal possession'of a weapon.
Woman wins abortion case
SAN ANTONIO (AP)—A judge dissolved a temporary restraining order
Wednesday and cleared the way for a 19-year-old woman to have an
abortion despite the objections of her estranged husband.
“I don’t want to be put in the role of murderer of a child." State
District Judge Peter Michael Curry said. "But I’m a believer in the Con-
stitution of the United States."
State District Judge James Onion issued a restraining order last week at
the request of the woman’s estranged husband Keith Hayes, who claims
he should be able to veto the woman’s abortion plans.
After a brief session Wednesday, Onion transferred the case to Curry,
who dissolved the order.
“I can’t see how I have the right to prevent this lady from having an
abortion,” Curry said

Students to meet
to organize group
By AMBER SMITH
Staff Writer
An NT chapter of Women in Com-
munications Inc. will be re-established
if enough students show support for
the organization at a meeting at 4:30
p.m. today in General Academic Build-
ing 104.
WICI is an organization that "fosters
professionalism in communications,”
said Dr. Doug Starr, faculty sponsor
and member of the journalism faculty.
Marchene Hudson, Denton junior,
said she expects at least 10 people to
attend the meeting. She said 10 is the
minimum number needed to start a
chapter.
Starr said WICI can benefit students
in news reporting, radio/television/film,
business communications, public re-
lations, advertising, photography and
teaching. He said men are allowed in
WICI.
“It provides a service to the stu-
dents." he said. “It also helps gradu-
ates find jobs.”
Starr said he didn't mind being the
sponsor of WICI, as long as there was
enough student support. Starr was the
faculty sponsor of WICI when it was
an active group on campus five years
ago.
WICI is one of the nation’s oldest
and largest professional communications
organizations. Founded in 1909 as Theta
Sigma Phi at the University of Wash-
ington in Seattle, WICI unites women
and men from all fields of communi-
catons. WICI has more than 12,000
members in 84 professional and 97 cam-
pus chapters.
Student fees are $35, a one-time fee
that covers all membership benefits for
the entire time the student remains in
college.
Student applicants must have at least
three months left before graduation, be
working full or part time toward a
degree, be above average in scholarship,
and be individuals who, by signing the
applications form, indicate their inten-
tion to pursue communications as their
career.
"It’s unfortunate that WICI has
‘women’ in the title," Starr said. "It’s
a great group because they’ll help you
find a job. It’s my belief that every
professional person should belong to
his professional organization and that
students should belong to the student
chapters of their professional organ-
ization.”
The group’s literature says its pur-
poses are those that affect profession-
al communicators:
• To unite members for the purpose
of promoting the advancement of wom-
en in all fields of communications;
• To work for the First Amendment
rights and responsibilities of com-
municators;
• To recognize distinguished profes-
sional achievements;
• To promote high professional stan-
dards throughout the communications
industry.
