four delegates at large and four
alternates to represeut the State
to the Republican National Con-
vention called to meet ill the City

Mrs. Geo. Jackson died at her
residence, 2216 Gasqnet street,
last Tuesday, January 24th, at 5
o'clock a. m. Mrs. Jackson, being
an old resident, was well known
throughout the city, aud lier sud-
den demise was a shock to her
many friends. She was a faithful
member of St. James A. M. B.
Church, and lived a consistent
Christian life. The funeral took

The apportionment will be the
same as for the State nominating
convention, one delegate for every
2500 population, and oue delegate
for fraction over 1500.

The marriage of Mr. Victorean
Arthur and Miss Ophelia M, Fer-
nandez took place at the St. Louis
Cathedral last Wednesday, in the

number of invited gnesrs. The
bride was attended by Misses Ida,
Ileni ietta, Jean and Lilia Field,
while Messrs. J. Qnessare and M.

groom. After the ceremony the
assembled guest repaired to the

where, after partaking of refresh-
ments, a grand time was enjoyed.

The joint committee of the Grand
United Order of Odd Fellows met
Sunday, 21st inst., aud elected the
following permanent officers to
serve during the ensuing year:

election was quite harmonious and
it is to be hoped that during this
year nothing will happen to mar
the grand celebration for which
tbe Grand Uuited Order of Odd
Fellows have become tamous on
their natal day, May 10th.
The El Cid Social Clnb is mak-
ing great preparations for their
grand dancing festival at Marine
and Odd Fellows' hall, Saturday
night, February 10th. This being
their first entertainment, arrange-
ments have been made to entertain
all their guests royally. There will
be souvenirs for the ladies, and
masquerader8 will be plentiful.
The Executive Committee, of which
Mr. Geo. Swayze is chairman,
promise to mnke this the grand
occasion of the season.
We are pleased to note that
since the death of Hon. G. F.
Bowles, supreme dictator of the
Knights of Honor of tbe World,
Mr. Marshall J. Simtns, of our city,
who has occupied the position of
supreme vice dictator, will succeed
the Colonel in work connected with
the Knights of Honor. Mr. Situms
has been connected, with the order
since its incipieucy in this State,
and has for many years been a co-
laborer with Col. Bowles in the
various enterprises which he hail
originated for the benefit of the
race. Mr. Simmsis well qualified
for such work, and his numerous
friends in the city aud elsewhere
wish him the success which his
long and important seivice merits.
Mr. James Lewis, accompanied
by his daughter, Mrs. Greeuville
liaby, left the city last Monday for
Memphis, Tenn., to attend the
funeral of Mr. Clarence Itaudolph,
who died on the 2lst inst. Mr.
Randolph was the son-in-law of
Mr. Lewis, being the husband of
his daughter Courtney. Besides a
loving wife, he leaves four children
to mourn their loss.
The concert given at William's
Chapel, Jau. 12 and 16, was quite
a success, the programme being
excellently rendered before an ap-
preciative audience
