The Altrurian Study Club featured
its annual guest day program with
a Spanish tea Thursdaiy afternoon,
May 12, from five until six-thirty at
the Panhandle Inn. Guests were
members of the Erudite, Mother’s
and Fine Arts Clubs and the public
school faculty.
Presidents of the clubs received
Mrs. Frank Sparks was elected
Worthy Matron of the Order of
Eastern Star at their regular meet-
ing, Monday night. Other officers
elected and appointed were: Lloyd

The reception room was gay with
suggestions of Spain. Brilliant ser-
apes were hung from the walls and
colorful gourds, authentic sombreros
and Spanish pottery were used in
abundance. Geraniums, the flower of
Spain, were in bright pots and made
a harmonius background for the
large bouquets of sourdock. Small
taibles, laid with tapestry and fascin-
ating trinkets, and potted cacti com-
pledted the room decorations.
The tea table wais covered in lace
and a fruit centerpiece, a large pine-
apple, surrounded by oranges, bana-
nas, apples, bell peppers, and squash,
was the highlight of the decorative
scheme. Red, blue, green, ajnd yellow
mints and spiced tea were served on
Fiesta colored pottery. Little Tere-

Refreshments of strawberry short-
cake and coffee were served to twen-
ty-five officers and visitors.
Twenty-six Seniors, accompanied
by Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Vaughn, Mrs.
C. E. McCray, Mrs. J. S. Sparks, and
Mrs1. H. L. Lemons, on last Friday,
May 13, yelled “Carlsbad Caverns
or bust’’ and shoved off for the des-
tination. They were also accompan-
ied by their sponsor, J. C. Line, and
Elmer Padget bus driver.
Arriving in Carlsbad, the seniors
obtained cabins on fhe edge of the
city. After cleaning up and eating,
the class separated for a time. A
carnival located a block away was
the main point of interest.
Saturday was given over to the trip
through the Carlsbad Caverns. In
ai party of 1800 people, the Panhan-
dle seniors with the representatives
from twelve other Texas schools,
brought the number of Texans mak-
ing the tour to 65 0.
Points of interest in the cavern
were the Whale’s Mouth, Little I
Hippo, Fairyland Queen’s Chamber.

Miss Margaret Helen Pyron, in
Spainish costume, glanced. Her ac-
companiment was played by Mrs.
Vern Wisdom.
The beautiful story of Lasca, with
its Spanish setting was read by Miss
Mairgaret Clower.

On Burglary Count

Council HD Council
To Sponsor Exhibit
Mrs. I. L. Davis, county chairman
for the year book committee, an-
nounced at the County Home De-
monstration Council, Saturday, May
14, that the various clubs must get
their programs outlined and mater-
ial together aind be ready to report
to Council in September.
Each year the book committees
from the various clubs meet with
the county committee and together
make the year books for the follow-
ing year. It is time to plain the club
work for 19 39 Mrs. Davis* pointed
out. She suggested that members
save any material on programs that
they want to study next year.
During the business meeting with
Mrs. M. C. King, council chairman,
in charge , reported that they had
accepted the recommendation made
by the council to sponsor an educa-
tional exhibit, first in the county and
them at the Tri-State Fair in Septem-
ber. The delegaes from the eleven
clubs of the county drew for parts
in the exhibit.
Delegates from the following clubs
were in council meeting: Conway,
Cluyler, King, Liberty, Fairview,
Panhandle, Groom, Home Markers,
and Friendship Circle.
