Open to the pupils of any school within a radius ot 12 miles of Lancaster. Three
pupils from each school will be allowed to enter the contest. The rules to govern
the contest will be announced to the contestants at 10:30 a. m., Saturday morning.
First Prize $5.00, Second Prize $300r third Prize $2 00. Mr. H. E. White, chair-
man of Committee on Spelling Contest Book used will be the “New Century
Speller,” beginning with third grade work.

TRADES DAY, MAY 1st.

A GREAT BABY SHOW
2:30 to 3:30 P. M.
We invite all mothers living within a radius or 12 miles of Lancaster to enter their
babies in this Great Baby Show, the best of its kind ever held in Lancaster.
Rules to Govern the Baby Show—Babies must be one year old, or under. Each
baby entered will be given a number. All babies must be entered by 2:25 p. m.
Everyone is invited to visit the Baby Show, and all visitors on entering will be
given a card, and all visitors over 18 years of age will be allowed to vote on the
finest baby by marking the number on the card of the baby they favor and de-
positing the card in a box. After the show closes the cards will be counted and
the baby receiving the greatest number ot votes will be declared the winner, and
awarded the Blue Ribbon and $5.00 in Gold. The baby receiving the second and
third greatest number of votes will be awarded a prize of $3.00 and $2.00
respectively.
Lancaster’s enterprising Photographer will present to the winning baby one
dozen $5.00 Photos—and will take pictures of all babies entered in the show and
allow a discount of 25 per cent off the regular price.
The Baby Show will be held in the Airdome, and lady attendants will be present
to assist the mothers who enter their babies. Mr. Guy Cornwell, chairman of
Committee on Baby Show, assisted by Mr. C R. Rea.

A GREAT CHICKEN RACE

One dozen of the fleetest Chickens to be had will be thrown into the Square at 4
p. m. from the top of the stores. Each chicken will bear a tag attached to its neck
calling for merchandise and cash to the value ot $1.00 to $2.50 or more, donated by
merchants ot Lancaster ; and the wildest chicken in the bunch will bear a tag cal-
ling for a cash prize of $5.00, donated by the Lancaster Commercial Club.
Rules Governing the Chicken Race — All boys and girls under 16 years of age
can enter. Nothing but the hands will be allowed in catching the chickens, and
must be presented alive by the one catching it to the donor ot the prize as stated
on the tag attached to the chicken, by 5:00 p. m. that day. Mr. G. T. Smith,
