The first extension was ob- j
tained for 30 days in early June j
after council was informed
both «*Mr. and Mrs. Edmunds;
were hospitalized with serious i
illnesses.
Presently, the Edmunds are
convelscing in their home at
5301 Gulf ton. Mr. Cook in-
formed council that efforts to
get Mr. Edmunds to sign the
necessary bond papers had been
thwarted by the Edmunds’
physicians, who insit on absolute
rest for Mr. Edmunds. Mr. Cook
requested the second 30-day ex-
tension on these grounds.
The request brought immed-'
iate reaction from council. Mrs.
Marguerett Randolph and Bob
Watts pointed out council was
subjected to pressure to get the
rezoning done in a hurry to en-
able Mr. Edmunds to get on
with leasing. Bill Rouse added:
“We had to move in a big rush
to get this thing done and now |
extensions are asked!”
Grant Webster observed' that1
“when important papers must
be signed, you usually can get;
them signed.” r
“Only reason we had to hurry i
was to help him clip the high- j
way department,” rumbled
Henry Hodell. He was referring
to complains by some council- j
men that rezoning the property!
to business would give Mr. Ed I
munds a better price on the! j
property the state is taking for j j
the Post Oak freeway widen- j
ing.
Mr. Cook snorted. “I am not a
barber,” he said. “I don’t clip
anybody!”
Mr. Cook, president of AEA
automobile airconditioning, said
he was trying to help Mr. Ed-
munds and Bellaire in the de-
velopment of new businesses.
