KEROSENE OILS.
The following description of the cele-
brated " Coal Oils," is taken from tho
Merchant's Journal :
Having spoken of the 'inexhaustibility
ol" the new material itself, we como to con-
sider the products of these oil burning
coals.
First. We have Keroseno " A" which is
a volatile hydro carbon, possessing ninny
of the properties of Benzole, and like that
may be converted into gas by simply forc-
ing atmospheric air through it Machines
have been invented by which it was sup-
posed houses might be lit up in this man-
ner. But the ditfioulties arising jjrom tho
condensation of the light in the pipes vero
too great, and the Company, not being
able to recommend the article to the pub:
lie, disposed of the " A" Kerosene for ma-
nufacturing purposes.
The next article produced is Keroseno
"B'r a description of naptha which ia
used for cleauiug wool, and other parpoae3
of commerce.
In the next place, we have the Kero-
sene Illuminating Oil, with regard to
which, the distinguished chemist Dr. E.
Jtf. Kent, gave so flattering a testimonial
after a full aud laborious photometrical
examination a short time since.
The next products of this manufacture
are Lubricating Oils of .various densitioa
and grades, suitable for machinery of all
kinds, and already largely introduced iuto
use, a3 also a description used only for
Binnacle Lights on shipboard, which ia
giving great satisfaction.
The next product is the Parefiue, whick
is used by candle manufacturers to greaf;
advantage".
Finally, the residuum of tho manufao-
ture comes to us in the shape of coke,
which is itself used for fuel under tho
stills, so that in the process of extracting
these oils there cannot be any considerable
waste.
The Kerosene Oils are now extentively
used by Railroads, Manufacturers, aud on
many of our Steamships, where from their
superiority and economy they are n-ene-rally
approved. See advertisement.
