R. E. Shepherd, district director
of the Federal Housing Adminis-
tration of Dallas, spoke to mem-
bers of the Denison Chamber of
Commerce and a group of inter-
ested people at the chamber of
commerce auditorium Tuesday
evening, March 22.
iVir. Shepherd explained to the
listeners, the provisions of the
Economy Program for 1949. He
outlined the participation by the

With u mature, adult story that,

und drama blended in just thej
right proportions, and an cmo- j
tional impact seldom equalled on 1
the screen, "A Letter to Three
Wives," showing Sunday and Mon- j
day at the Rialto theatre, is won-!
derful entertainment.
This Twentieth Century-Pox
comedy-drama has a star-studded j
cast that includes Jeanne Crain.j
Linda Darnell and Ann Sothern as |
the "wives," paired with Jeffrey
Lynn, Paul Douglas and Kirk
Douglas, respectively. The immed-
iate action of the hilarious story
takes place in a single day, when
the three girls leave on a picnic
excursion with the unsettling news
that "Addie," their suburban
town's most attractive unattached
female, has left town with one of
their husbands.
"Addie,," incidentally, is an in-
triguing Rebecca-like figure who
is never seen or even identified,
but her taunting voice rings in the
ears of each wife as she searches
her marriage, convinced that it is
her husband that the predatory fe-
male has taken.
Told in an intricate, yet com-
pletely credible series of flash-
backs, "A Letter to Three Wives"
is a cinematic triumph. The dia<-
logue is brilliant, the direction of
writer-director Joseph L. Mankie-
wicz a thing of rare perfection.
Paul Douglas, in his first screen
role as the hard-talking store ex-
ecutive, definitely establishes him-
self as a top-flight star, while
Linda Darnell has never showed to
better advantage. Jeanne Crain
emerges as a talented mature ac-
tress and Ann Sothern is superb as
is her school-teacher husband, Kirk
Douglas. Jeffrey Lynn scores as
Miss Crain's better half.
The supporting players, headed
by lanky blonde Barbara Law-
rence, who is co-starred as Linda's
kid sister, include Connie. Gilchrist,
Florence Bates and Hobart Cava-
naugh. Produced by Sol C. Sie-
gel, "A Letter to Three Wives"
was adapted by Vera Caspary from
a Cosmopolitan Magazine novel by
John Klempner.
No wife can afford to pass up
this sparkling entertainment treat
—no husband should!

How to Change Your

Equipment Safely
COLLEGE STATION—An effi-

to work—a lot more work is done
with a lot less effort.
But there is an exception to
that rule—and that exception is
when it come to electrical equip-
ment.
Mrs. Bernice Claytor, extension
home management specialist of
Texas A. & M. college, points out
that, for safety's sake, one hand is
beter than two when handling any
electrical appliance or changing a
fuse. If the appliance is worn or
otherwise defective, causing a
short circuit, there is always dang-
er of shock. But there is less
chance of severe shock if one hand
is free—or is not touching any-
thing else.

IGHT COMPANY
Come in and see "The Car Designed With YOU in Mind"
tt's bhand-new ... so new that there aren't many
1 on the streets yet. But already it's a tremendous
success. And it's easy enough to see why.
Everybody wants a smart, good-looking modern
car. But most of us don't want to pay a penalty for
being modern. We want more room... more comfort
,.. more visibility... not less.
That's where De Soto scores. It's got those long,
low lines. But you don't have to wriggle into it. It
has big wide doors. Plenty of headroom, too. The
roof won't scrape your hat, no matter where you
sit. It's roomier than ever.
It's no use having bigger windows and windshields
unless you can see out of them. In the new De Soto
you can . . . because you're sitting on chair-high
seats. Even a short person can see over the steering
wheel. Even a six-footer won't hit his knees on it.
You don't have to enlarge your garage to hold the
new De Soto. You can still change a tire yourself.
And a dent in the fender doesn't mean an expensive
body repair job. Come in and sec this wonderful car
that lets you drive without shifting. Compare it with
any other at any price. Then decide.
