Gladys Strickland
ALBANY, Ga. - Gladys Strickland, wife of for-
mer school superintendent Chester Strickland,
died Jan. 4, 2005, in Albany, Ga. Mr. Strickland
preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 1997.
Mr. Strickland served as superintendent for
the Denton Independent School District from
1946 through 1969. They were active in the First United Methodist
Church and were active members of the Denton community. The
Stricklands were married for 65 years.
Funeral services for Gladys Smithee Strickland, 94, will be held at
10:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at the Silverton United Methodist
Church in Silverton, Texas, with burial in Silverton Cemetery.
Survivors include her daughter, Kay Wylie (Lynn) of Albany; a
granddaughter, Sherri Wylie (Sam Hardin) of Atlanta; two grand-
sons, Roger Wylie (Daiva Tautvydas) of Seattle, Wash., and Cliff
Wylie (Neema Amatya) of Los Angeles, Calif., and four great-grand-
children: Beth Wylie Hardin, Zach Wylie Hardin, Asta Wylie and
Aidan Wylie. A sister, Einell Bramblett of Plainview, Texas, also sur-
vives her.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church,
Denton.
