When your eyes are examined
by Dr. Voss:
A history of your eyes and
visual symptoms is recorded. This
case history is important to the eye
examination and diagnosis of your
eye condition.
An internal eye examination is
made with the opthalmoscope for
evidence of disease or defect.
When the need is indicated by
the history or symptoms the Electronic
Tonometer is used to measure the in
traocular pressure for evidence of
glaucoma.
An examination is made for de
fective vision caused by astigmatism
near or farsightedness or muscle im
balance.
If the examination reveals the
need for glasses or contact lenses
they are prescribed for the clearest
most comfortable vision possible.

A most important step any
person can take when being
separated from the service is
to complete an effective
resume. A resume is a brief
biography of a person's em
ployment record military
service and in addition a
short personality sketch.
Many job applicants make
the mistake of either over or
under selling themselves and
worse ineffectively presen
ting themselves. These two
factors can mean quick rejec
tion of the application for fur
ther job consideration.
The resume should "be an
introduction of the applicant
to a prospective employer. It
can be used for other pur
poses such as for a current
record of your personal
background or as a guide
from which to measure
career progression.
Mainly it is a marketing
tool designed to convince
potential employers that the
applicant deserves an inter
view. Employers must rely
on resumes to screen ap
plicants to determine those
who have enough competitive
promise to be interviewed.
The resume will not
necessarily get you a firm
job offer but it can get you
an interview this is impor
tant because without an inter
view there is no job.
A -good resume should have
all the information about the
applicant which will be
rrelevant to his qualifications
for the specific employment
he seeks. Traditionally such
information has tended to
mean just a stock listing of
name address and ex
perience but employers want
more than this.
Employers are looking for
a written presentation that
shows creativity in-
novativeness and above all
something that is accomplish
ment oriented. Remember
that you are not writing for
yourself but to please the
reader. If you fail to please
the reader you will not be
granted an interview.

All facets of the presen
tation should be targeted to
the potential employer. If you
are applying for a technical
job be sure to tell the
prospective employer about
all aspects of your technical
ability.
The format of the resume
is important and one good
presentation is a pamphlet
style on 10 15 paper with a
center fold covered with a
letter on the front panel and
resume data on the other
three panels. This is more
creative or innovative than
the standard single sheets
stapled together.
The length of the resume
should adequately cover what
you want to say while short
enough to be interesting and
not lose the readers interest.
It is important to stimulate
the employer's curiosity so
that you will get an inter
view. Be careful not to over
or under sell yourself. As a
rule most employers don't
like to take the time to read
through more than two pages
of a single sheet resume and
if the pamphlet style is used
do not add any attachments.
The best technique is to
avoid any gimmicks and in
stead give the facts of your
time spent in a given job. It
is important to sepcify
promotions earned in the
military special recognition
received proficiency ratings
achieved and special assign
ments. The employer is most
interested in the good things
that you have done in order
that he can relate them to a
Kesumes make the difference
possible position in which you
might bewme employed.
Ft. Hood's Casey Memorial
Library has several good
books giving information on
the completion of resumes
and it is good to follow the
standard formats for the
proper style in yours. It is
essential that the resume be
free from errors in typing
and grammar.
The final draft of your
resume can be reproduced in
a hundred or so copies
without a great deal of ex
pense. It is important that
the copies be printed by the
offset process on high quality
bond paper. This can be done
by a commercial printer at a
minimum cost.
The resumes should be cir
culated to a variety of firms
in the type of business that
you are interested in and you
should mail your resumes to
both large medium and
small firms.
