Pastor says Christmas miracle
makes Easter possible
First Baptist Church
Pastor Bob Alderman
Without a creme filiing
there could be no Oreo
cookie; without Tom, Jerry
would be unemployed and
without Christmas there
would be no Easter.
These two holy days
represent two very special
things: The amazing grace
of God and the lengths He
was willing to go for a
relationship with you!
Jesus was born to a virgin,
a young woman who had
never been with a man.
Mary was pure, chaste and
faithful enough in her walk
with God to willingly submit
to His plan for her life.
God did the impossible so
that it would be possible for
you to have a relationship
with Him.
The birth of Jesus was
marked by a sign that read
"NO ENTRY T but He
entered our world anyway
Even in the death of Jesus
Christ, God did the
impossible! In the reality of
our worldly understanding,
dead means..well dead. We
know that our lives here on
earth have an expiration
date, one that is unknown to
us.
This human law was
miraculously broken by
Jesus Christ! He was raised
from the dead by a power
that could only come from
the God of all creation
Jesus walked out of His
tomb alive and well. Even
though tombs should be
marked by signs that read
"NO EXIT" Jesus walked
out.
These are just two
examples of how God did
the impossible so it would be
possible for you to have a
relationship with Him.
God is committed to you!
God is committed to loving
you!
John 3:16-17 "For God so
loved the world, that he gave
his only Son, that whoever
believes in him should not
perish but have eternal life.
For God did not send his
Son into the world to
condemn the world, but in
order that the world might be
saved through him." ESV
This is the mystery of
Christmas and Easter, that
God loves you enough to
send His Son to you and to
send His Son to take the
punishment f o r your
mistakes.

14.

from the November 2008
total of $3,593,742.92.
November 2009 current
collections amounted to
$3,482,929.11, an increase
of $1,313,968.86 from the
November 2008 figure of
$2,168,960.25.
November 2009

The answer to this mystery
is found in God's love for
you! Even when you are^
hard to love! M
Romans 5:6-11 "For while
we were still weak, at the
right time Christ died for the
ungodly. For one will
carcely die for a righteous
person-though perhaps for a
good person one would dare
even to die-but God shows
his love for us in that while
we were still sinners, Christ
died for us. Since, therefore,
we have now been justified
by his blood, much more
shall we be saved by him
from the wrath of God. For
if while we were enemies we
were reconciled to God by
the death of his Son, much
more, now that we are
reconciled, shall we be saved
by his life. More than that,
we also rejoice in God
through our Lord Jesus
Christ, through whom we
have now received
reconciliation." ESV
Without Christmas there
could be no Easter. Without
both the manger and the
cross, God's love for you
could never be known.
Yes, God is truly
committed to you.
You know, commitment is
the true measure of love; not
emotion and not mere words,
but commitment. ■
God is willing to do
everything in His
considerable power to have a
relationship with you!
The question I would like
to challenge you with is this;
"Are you this committed to
God?"
God gives everything,
even does the impossible, so
it would be possible for you
to have a relationship with
Him.
Are you willing to make
that kind of commitment to
your relationship? Can God
count on you?
Remember that God loves
you!...and so do I.

iRESOUTIONS
10 TIPS FOR KEEPING NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS
1. BE REALISTIC - The surest way to fall short of your goal is to make your goal unattainable. For
instance, resolving to never eat your favorite food again because it bothers your IBD could be a bad
choice. Strive for a goal that is attainable, such as avoiding it more often than you do now.
2. PLAN AIIEAI) - Don't make your resolution on New Year's Eve If you wait until the last
minute, it will be based on your mindset that particular day. Instead, it should be planned well before
December 31 arrives
3. OUTLINE VOI R PLAN - Decide how you will deal with the temptation to skip that exercise
class or have one more cigarette. This could include calling on a friend for help, practicing positive
thinking and self-talk, or reminding yourself how your bad habit affects your IBD.
4. MAKE A "PRO" AND "CON" LIST - It may help to see a list of items on paper to keep your
motivation strong Develop this iist over time, and ask others to contribute to it. Keep your list with
you and refer to it when you need help keeping your resolve.
5. TALK ABOUT IT - Don't keep your resolution a secret. Tell friends and family members'who
will be there to support your resolve to change yourself for the better or improve your health. The
best case scenario is to find yourself a buddy who shares your New Year's resolution and motivate
each other
6. REWARD YOl'RSELF - This doesn't mean that you can eat an entire box of chocolates if your
resolution is to diet Instead, celebrate your success by treating yourself to something that you enjoy
that does not contradict your resolution. If you've been sticking to your promise to eat better, for
example, perhaps your reward could be going to a movie with a friend.
7. TRACK YOl R PROGRESS - Keep track of each small success you make toward reaching your
larger goal. Short-term goals are easier to keep, and small accomplishments will help keep you
motivated. Instead of focusing on losing 30 pounds, say. focus on losing that first 5. Keeping a food
diary or a symptom journal may help you stay on track.
8. DON'T BEAT YOl'RSELF I P - Obsessing over the occasional slip won't help you achieve
your goal. Do the best you can each day, and take each day one at a time.
9. STICK TO IT - Experts say it takes about 21 days for a new activity, such as exercising, to
become a habit, and 6 months for it to become part of your personality. Your new healthful habits
u ill become second-nature in no time
10. KEEP I RYING - If your resolution has totally run out of steam by mid-February, don't despair
Start over again! There's no reason you can't make a "New Year's resolution" any tune of year.

Region One G/T specialist
receives state award
For twelve years as the
Region One ESC Gifted and
Talented Coordinator
Patricia Rendon has served
as an advocate for the Gifted
and Talented program and
has supported GT teachers in
developing their expertise to
better serve the GT student
population. Now, Rendon
has received statewide
recognition for her service to
the GT teachers.
Rendon, along with 7 other
GT specialists from across
the state were recognized for
their participation as
contributors to a statewide
module of training for
teachers of gifted and
talented students.
The group was aw arded
the President's Award by the
Texas Association for the
Gifted and Talented at the
Annual TAGT Professional
Development Conference in
Houston. Texas on
December 4. 2009. The
recipient of this annual
award is selected by TAGT's
outgoing president to a
person whom the president
admires for leadership,
insights and commitment, or
someone who has served as
a mentor or inspiration.
This year the award was
given to a group of people
collectively known as the
Module Makers. During the
fall of 2001, the Module-
Makers convened at the
education service center in
Midland, Texas for days at a
time to develop the 30 hours
of basic professional
development for teachers
across the state. The thirty
hours of professional
development is required for
teachers of the gifted and
talented in order to attain
their certificate in this area.
"I am very proud to have
been selected, along with my
colleagues, for this honor,"
says Rendon. "But I am even
more proud of the
contribution made to the
field of gifted and talented
education through the
development of the
professional development
modules. I am confident
that we have not only made
an impact on our educators,
but we will also impact
learning for our gifted and
talented students."
Kenedy Foundation
aids ICS through grant
Immaculate Conception
School has continued over
the years through fund
raising efforts and grants.
The school is grateful to the
Kenedy Memorial
Foundation as one of our
biggest supports.
Their grant provided great
relief for our parents by
continuing to make tuition
affordable for most of our
parents. This fund helped
and is helping our families
with two or more children in
the school.
The Kenedy Memorial
Foundation is organized
exclusively for charitable
purposes. Founded in 1961
by Sarita Kenedy East,
granddaughter of Mifflin
Kenedy and Petra Vela
Kenedy, the Foundation has
donated more than 200
million dollars to charitable
causes and organizations in
Texas, and Immaculate
Conception School is
blessed to be one of the
schools that is enjoying this
grant. In South Texas,
where the majority of its
contributions have been
made, the Foundation is one
of the major charity
contributors.
This school year, 2009-
2010, I.C.S. has forty-five
families who are blessed by
this grant.
The map of America is a map of
endlessness, of opening out, of
forever and ever. No man's face
would make you think of it but
his hope might, his courage
might.
