the necessity of enlarging the
auction barn due to the increase
in cattle runs during the past
several years. Since Mr. Tobias
has been managing Cen-Tex
Livestock Commission Co., the
average weekly livestock runs
have more than doubled.
“We definitely need the ad-
ditional space,’’ commented
Tobias, “because we don’t like
to crowd the cattle too much.
But we’ve had to do just that
whenever the cattle runs ex-
ceeded 1,000 head like they did
many times this summer.’'5
Cen-Tex had a record run of
slightly over 2,000 head this
year. “We have a lot of out-
of-state buyers at all times,”
stated Mr. Tobias, “because
we always have fresh stock right
off the area ranches — and
that’s what the buyers want.”
Consequently, when there are a
lot of buyers on hand, the cattle
price is likely to be very good.

town. Besides owning the live-

stock commission, Tobias also
owns a number of farms in this
area and also deals in real
estate.
“I’m very proud to be a part
of the Lee County area,” Mr.
Tobias said, “and I’m mighty
thankful for the loyal friends and
customers I’ve had these past
seven years. It took the co-
operation of the buyers from all
over the U.S. and the cattlemen
of this entire Central Texas
area to make this business
successful.’’
Mr. Tobias commented that at
one Tuesday sale there were
cattle brought in from 11 coun- .
ties and 33 towns in this area.
Mr. Tobias said that he
always tells his customers that
if Cen-Tex pleases them to
tell their friends, and if it
doesn’t to tell him so that he
can do his level best to please
them in the future.
